Graduate Can C be measured in MeV? If so is this per photon?
So the heavier elements need higher MeV to reach higher acceleration, is this why you can't just keep combining elements like ununoctium to create super heavy elements? Im guessing they would be ridiculously unstable anyway but that's for another post i think. -

Graduate Can C be measured in MeV? If so is this per photon?
Can C be measured in MeV?? If so is this per photon? Basically as the title states, can you measure C in MeV, i read ALICE was nearing Acceleration of C at 14 MeV (These numbers are what i can remember from a while ago). Then is that measure of 14 MeV for say a single atom, or does it apply... -

Undergrad Redshift: Speed of Light & Beyond?
Just a little confused about amounts of redshift, I read somewhere about redshift and how some galaxies are moving at redshift 3 (I think), which was said to be at or near the speed of light, then later in the article is said a galaxy was found to be moving at redshift 6. I understand how the... -

Undergrad What happens to light when it reaches the edge of the universe?
I think what shovel is trying to say (Or here's how I see it) is that the space is expanding, the universe is expanding in all directions from every point within it, so there's no "More" space, its just the amount we have has stretched so to speak. The thing I don't get is the amounts of...- EMFsmith

Undergrad What happens to light when it reaches the edge of the universe?
This is what lead me to post this, something Marcus wrote on a post somewhere, i thought it would take infinite energy to move objects of mass at c ? (For example, galaxies are routinely observed at redshifts greater than 3. In fact, one was recently detected to have z = 10 (by Roser...- EMFsmith

Undergrad What happens to light when it reaches the edge of the universe?
I though the speed of light was the speed at which "Stuff" (Pardon my ignorance here) of 0 mass can travel, ie photons. So how can there be ANYTHING that travels faster than this?- EMFsmith

High School If earths rotation stoped, the moon would be released.
Even though the Moon is drifting away, Gravity has an infinite range, the Moon will not just drift off into space and loose its orbit with Earth.- EMFsmith

High School If earths rotation stoped, the moon would be released.
A glance at Newtons's Law of Universal Gravitation will tell you that gravity is always a two-way street - just as the moon raises tides on earth, so Earth must cause tides to sweep across the surface of the moon. These tides are not in water, of course, but in the solid rock of the lunar...- EMFsmith

Distance from cartesian coordinates and im going wring somewhere.
Could well be the lenghts of the other 2 sides, I was going from the question P(-2,3) Q(1,-3) Find the length between the 2 points. First attempt at this so the advice has been really useful, sometimes textbooks just don't do it for me.- EMFsmith

Thats great thanks, I'm struggling to remember how to work out the square root notation instead of a decimal?- EMFsmith

Distance from cartesian coordinates and im going wring somewhere.
Why is \sqrt{9+36} = 3\sqrt{5} and not 6.708 ? I wasnt interested in maths at school but now I'm trying to self teach, so pardon my ignorance. Edit: Ok i feel foolish now, no need to correct me as I've just worked out i WAS correct. I'm still unsure as to why it would be shown...- EMFsmith

The most amazing thing you've seen
The pillars and mountain images are 2 separate images aren't they? It's funny you should say that because I was torn between them, as which to label as my number 1- EMFsmith

How do you motivate yourself to study?
This is new to me, the idea of studying being compettetive, I am not sure if this is due to me being from england, but I never saw that at school from any pupil, even the brightest.- EMFsmith
