Undergrad Is the chain rule applied in the derivative of cos(t^3) ?
How would you compute the derivative of cos(t^3)? Would you use the chain rule? Does anyone have a good way of recognizing when to use chain rule and when not to?- engstudent363

Undergrad How Do You Find the Derivative of log(x^2+y^3)?
Derivative of log(x^2+y^3) ? I'm familiar with the derivative of log x but not when x is raised to a power or when y is involved. Could someone offer some help? And if you know of a website that fully explains this please let me know. Thanks.- engstudent363

Undergrad Derivative of e^(-(1/3)x^2-(1/5)y^4) ?
Derivative of e^(-(1/3)x^2-(1/5)y^4) ? I need help figuring this out. I know that the derivative of e^5x is 5e^x but I'm not sure what to do when x is raised to a power or when there is another variable involved, such as y. Once again here is what I need to find: Derivative of...- engstudent363

How to Calculate Time it Takes for an Object to Fall or Reach the Top of an Arc
If I'm given that someone releases a ball at x distance away from the ground how do you calculate how long it takes to fall? Another problem I have is finding the amount of time it takes to get to the top of an arc after you've thrown a ball and you're given the distance it is from the...- engstudent363

High School Multivariable Calculus - Dot Products
I'm still confused. Here's an example. I am given a problem X "dot" X and that would give me x1*x1 + x2*x2 + x3*x3 . What is the point of having this information? What does the dot product mean geometrically?- engstudent363
