Graduate Is a Curved Surface Truly 2 Dimensional if Bent in 3D Space?
I think I see where tgm1024 is getting confused. Yes, to define the shape and position of a parabola itself in R^2, it takes two values. To find a point on a parabola relative to R^2 it would take two values. But to find how far along the line you are it only takes one value. It does not...- Etherian

Graduate Projection of a differentiable manifold onto a plane
Your response definitely helped me, but I believe the 2D plane P would have to be in the 3-manifold M to achieve the effect I am looking for. Like I said, though, I am still learning about this stuff. Also, I was hoping that by gluing and ungluing the two submanifolds I could get away with not...- Etherian

Graduate Projection of a differentiable manifold onto a plane
For a game I am thinking about making I would need to know how to project points from a differentiable bounded 3-manifold to a Euclidean plane (the computer screen). The manifold would be made from a 3-dimensional space with two balls cut out of it and a hypercylinder glued onto it at the holes...- Etherian

Undergrad Where can I learn more about webs?
I have always been interested in webs because their ability to model complex systems. I was recently thinking about how a web could be used to model words, ideas, even languages. I want to learn more about webs, maybe even how I could apply them myself, but I'm not sure where to look. I did a...- Etherian

Calibration of an Interactive Whiteboard
I am trying to create an interactive whiteboard with an IR camera (wiimote actually), IR pen, and an arbitrary surface. For simplicity I'll assume the surface is a screen. To know how an IR dot from the camera's point of view relates to a point on the screen's surface, I must calibrate it with a...- Etherian

Help with entering an equation into a calculator
Thanks for responding so quickly (in fact faster than I was able to edit my own post). The equation still won't work, but I believe it is that I misunderstood the equation, than it was incorrect or someone did something wrong. Thanks again for the help.- Etherian

Help with entering an equation into a calculator
First I should mention I'm actually going to use this in actionscript (a programming language), but as most people here probably don't know actionscript, I thought a graphing calculator would be a good analogue. I am also using an actual calculator, though, and will from here on regard the...- Etherian
