History Did the Moghuls of India Really Build the World's Largest Cannon?

Saw it about a year ago. It didn't have along description about what it was about on the cable guide. Started watching it thinking it would be something worthwhile. as soon as they started in on the BErmuda Triangle and dredging up all the theories about what could cause this phenomenon I turned...

What Is the Purpose of Your Garage?

Lovely, we've highjacked the garage thread to talk about Dangers junk  I have a small ranch house in the burbs that had the back half of the one car garage turned into a dining room and laundry alcove so you aren't stuck with a small eat in kitchen. Thus it becomes mostly a storage...

Dealing with Annoying Base Heads: A Spud-tacular Solution

I think Moonbear is talking about those supped up Harleys that sound like a loud flatulating explosion :yuck: My brother-in-laws BMW bikes sound smooth and aren't that loud. To their credit the Harleys aren't that loud either unless you put a non stock exhaust on them. I have jackasses like that...

Exploring Quality Historical Forums for Beginners

Mk, IMO most of the forums on here are quality. The moderators are pretty good at keeping flames to a minimum and most mentors seem a decent bunch of people. You don't need to know a lot about history to post a question. I didn't feel qualified to post either and said as much. Evo and...

    Hydrostatic Test and Air Entrapement

Air compresses a lot more than water. IF there were a catastrophic failure of the cylinder under test with gas there would be a big shrapnel causing explosion. Using water mitigates that problem to a large extent. Also since air and water compress differently a cylinder with a 90/10% water to...

News The BEAST's 50 Most Loathsome Americans of 2007

Read through the first 5 on the linked site and couldn't make it through the rest. THey're (the site) entitled to their opinion but they just seem to be a bunch of bitter, spiteful, hate filled people. IMO it's a good name for the site because they say some beastly stuff.

Carl Sagan's Cosmos Returns Jan 8

Absolutely loved this series. I saw it in the US when it first aired on PBS (I was about 11 at the time). As young as I was I made a point to not have anything to do each week at that time so I could watch that show. I didn't want to miss one episode.

You Tube and My Space are so we can see even more talented works from all those people who we were introduced to at the beginning of American Idol

    Best Science Fiction Movie ever

I think that movie was made in New Zealand or Australia and was either called "The Silent Earth" or "The Quiet Earth". I saw it and THought it was good. The reason nobody wanted to send anyone else through the machine in Contact was becasue everyone thought it hadn't worked. JOdie Fosters...

Sun Sensor Performance in Earth's Shadow

I'm not being sarcastic in any way, but try this. Think of your original question and then ask yourself the more analytical/in depth questions of: 1. Is the sun sensor sensing light or heat (how is it constructed/designed). 2. Is the sun sensor aimed at the sun itself or sensing what is...

Gas-electric hybrids, is gas cheaper or electricity to drive a given distance?

Only too true, as you pointed out Ivan at the least an engineering error in the battery/power pack design (also improper utilization) can cause inefficiencies which lead to a shortened lifespan of the batteries. Which then of course offsets any hoped for fuel savings. BTW thank for the...

Gas-electric hybrids, is gas cheaper or electricity to drive a given distance?

I read/heard that some Prius owners have come up with a couple of mods to their cars. One is a conversion (actually an add on) to make it a plug in electric hybrid. The other mod I've heard of is to somehow change (reprogram?)the controller (computer) to get the car to run longer (at higher...
