Solving SV(z) = ∫ ρ(z)gdz ~ ρgz
Homework Statement I just need to use this formula and then apply p = density and I z= depth Homework Equations SV(z) = ∫ ρ(z)gdz ~ ρgzThe Attempt at a Solution (ρ(z)(z)g))/2 and if ~ ρgz is multiple it would be (ρ(z)(z)g))/2 * ρgz which is (ρ(ρ)(z)(z)(z)g(g)))/2 Thanks for your help in...- g0ggs123

Calculating the weight of an object required to overcome grease seal
Hi I am trying to work out a problem with a piece of equipment: imagine a container that has grease injected into it at say 3,000 Psi The container has a piece of wire running though the middle vertically with a 100lbs weight attached to bottom. Only the wire is in contact with the...- g0ggs123

How is Diamond Revolutionizing MEMS Technology?
Cheers for the papers had read one of them already but the other two were very useful, Is it true that a resist cannot be used with diamond mems since the main processes for producing a film rely on the CVD method which gives a consistent coating over the entire substrate regardless of a...- g0ggs123

How is Diamond Revolutionizing MEMS Technology?
Hi I am doing a research project into the use of diamond in MEMS and I've got a few questions for anyone who knows a bit about this field: 1) What are the major uses of diamond in MEMS (I haven't found nearly as many as I would have expected)? 2) Is Microwave plasma CVD the best way for...- g0ggs123

Solving the Abaqus CAE 'KeyError' Issue
1 Create xy data 2 ODB field output 3 Select node 4 Select type of plot ie Unique nodal 5 Plot results (If it doesn't work first time the node selection has gone so select again) Then to get the actual numbers go to XY data manager tehn the plot should show, go to edit and you'll...- g0ggs123

Graduate Eccentricity of a compressed circular ring
If an initially circular ring is made out of round by cutting out a section of the ring (delta g) and compressing the ring till the gap is approx zero is there an equation to describe the eccentricity of the circle? Cheers Gordon- g0ggs123

Estimating shear loss from a piston ring
Cheers for the reply, Currently the piston ring is EN24T and is flame hardened as it was the easiest and quickest way to do it. The piston ring is to be used in a hydraulic radial pump with the in cylinder pressure reaching 400bar. I assumed at this pressure the oil film thickness would be...- g0ggs123

Estimating shear loss from a piston ring
Hi could someone tell me if it is possible to calculate the shear loss from a metal piston ring against the cylinder in a hydraulic pump when the outlet pressure and speed (in rpm) of shaft are known. Cheers (Updated: maybe along the lines of in cylinder pressure x piston speed x friction...- g0ggs123

Calculating Piston Ring Leakage at 400bar Pressure
Does anyone have experience of calculating piston ring leakage, my problem is that the piston leakage is in a hydraulic system with a flooded cylinder and operating pressures of up to 400bar. All journals I find are on IC engines and so the theory is very different. There are also...- g0ggs123

Alternative to carbon steel for pipe manufacture?
316 could be another option, the corrosion mechanisms include synergetic effect of erosion/corrosion, impingement corrosion and pitting corrosion, however, so that's why I was thinking along the lines of Inc or hast. Would 316 be up to the task? I can give you the processing conditions if that...- g0ggs123

Alternative to carbon steel for pipe manufacture?
I am doing research into an internal corrosion/erosion problem on a methanol pipework processing line. The pipe is made out of carbon steel and I am looking at replacing it with a duplex steel like Inconel 625 or HASTELLOY. Does anyone know how I could go about working out the costs involved so...- g0ggs123

Anyone know of an internal liner material to protect against internal corrosion
The pipe has a 4" dia and the section consists of T-joints and tight bends. Solutions I have looked at so far include Cladding and Weld Overlay but the process costs increase dramatically as the pipe dia decreases. Cheers for your reply- g0ggs123
