Confirming Convection: Heat Escape Through Unlidded Containers
Hi, Just a quick question, I just want to check that i am on the right lines! When heat escapes through the top of a container which does not have a lid, is that due to convection? i/e hot air is less dense than cold air, so rises. Cheers o:) Gemma o:)- gem0688

How Do Reactivities Compare in Key Organic Chemistry Compound Pairs?
Think about what affect the -OH group will have on the benzene ring. Think about the lone pair of electrons on the oxygen and the delocalised electrons in the middle. What is going to happen? Also give us some ideas of your thoughts or the work you have done on the questions and we can then...- gem0688

Marine Biology- Waves and Their Characteristics
4 + 5) Try thinking about what effect the wind will have on the larger surface area (of the side of the boat) compared to the smaller surface area (at the front of the boat). What is going to happen to the ship if the wind comes from the front, and what about from the side?- gem0688

Finding Heat Capacity of Metal: Experiments & Ideas
Do you have any ideas of any other posiible experiments? So, in the crank experiment, the heat is caused by the work done to overcome the friction, so that is the heat supplied. Then because i know the mass of my metal and i can measure the temperature rise i can put it into the SHC equation...- gem0688

High School Discover the Fascinating Phenomenon of Northern Lights
Thanx, had a look at that site, was good. The pictures of the northern lights are really good. Also found the animation of how the magnetosphere is squashed helpful. So it is because the electrons escape from the magnetosphere into our atmosphere, where the collisions with atoms...- gem0688

Would this be beacuse of the light gets split up when it hits parts of the Earth's atmosphere at different angles?- gem0688

High School Discover the Fascinating Phenomenon of Northern Lights
Ohh ok, so it all depends with what it is colliding with at different levels. So for example, at a lower level there may more oxygen collisions compared to another part. I think i am getting there at last! o:)- gem0688
