ah, ok, I'm going to look more up on this. thank you for your help so-crates.

    Undergraduate chemical engineering

eh, i meant as a major offered by a university. Is there an actual specialist field for chemistry? All this time i was under the impression that it fell under chemical engineering. I think i put this in the wrong thread category. Should I create a new thread and paste a link of this in the...

yeah, I'm preparing myself mathematically. is there another disciple of study that is more chemistry oriented?

Lab Experiment:Calculating Molar Enthelpy of Fusion of Water

alright, i think i understand what was wrong with my approach. the energy involved in decreasing the temperature of water isn't necessarily the amount of energy involved in the fusion of ice right. am i on the right track? i'm going to read over my textbook more thoroughly again and do some...

Lab Experiment:Calculating Molar Enthelpy of Fusion of Water

if we always use an absolute value why is it denoted as delta t which is = t(final) - t(initial)

Lab Experiment:Calculating Molar Enthelpy of Fusion of Water

hmm, so we always use an absolute value for temperature readings ? do we then determine a negative sign for molar enthalpy by looking at whether energy was lost or gained. what was wrong with my approach?

    Undergraduate chemical engineering

i'm applying to take undergraduate chemical engineering and i was wondering if there was anything i needed to know to prepare for it. Chemistry is a very interesting topic to me. I'm currently reading "History of Analytical Chemistry" by Ferenc Szabadvary. Does anyone know of any other good...

Can You Explain These Complex Chemistry Questions?

The last question is interesting. could someone give me a hint? Could the weight of the molecule of C20H40 be the reason it's a solid or should i look at the problem in terms of bonds formed? c20h40 and c4h8 are both cyclic compounds from what i drew.

Lab Experiment:Calculating Molar Enthelpy of Fusion of Water

nobb, you use the negative sign in your calculation because it indicates a physical temperature decrease. if you were to use the absolute value all of the time it would be hard to determine whether there was a loss of energy or gain. also why did you choose to use that formula. I received...

Optimizing Integer Comparison without If Statements

hmm, i should have been more specific. it only wanted positive whole numbers and things I've learned in that chapter. this was a very neat trick.

Optimizing Integer Comparison without If Statements

i'm reading a programming book and one of the problems it asks me to solve is to write a program that determines the larger and smaller values of two integers that the user inputs. I could not use if statements in the program. I checked the answer and they had used this expression to come...
