Algebraic coding theory- Golay Code
the smallest distance for the code is 8 so that is the smallest weight possible. That means that the words must be separated by a distance of 8. The Golay is also a double self-dual code so all weights must be divisible by 4- hatsu27

Algebraic coding theory- Golay Code
Homework Statement does anyone know why C24 (the extended Golay Code) doesn't have any words of weight 20? I know that it only has words of weight 0,8,12,16, & 24, but why is 20 skipped here? Homework Equations I am asked to deduce this from the fact after I have shown that the code does...- hatsu27

Logic- How to show something is NOT provable?
Ok I will try again (thanks for your patience with me) 1) x=x just an atomic formula 2) ƒ(x = x) = T 3) ƒ(~(x = x)) = F 4) then (~~(x = x) V ~(x = x)) is a wff, a string of atomic formulae? 5) then remembering ƒ(B V C) = ƒ(C) : ƒ(~~(x = x) V ~(x = x)) = ƒ(~(x = x))...? 4) Then again...- hatsu27

Logic- How to show something is NOT provable?
First off thank you for responding- I really appreciate your help- I am taking this as an independent study course and with no lectures and a Prof. who doesn't have a lot of time for me it can be frustrating and lonely! If anything it is nice to have someone just answer a question:redface...- hatsu27

Logic- How to show something is NOT provable?
Homework Statement Let S be the theory with no NONlogical symbols and no NONlogical axioms. Show that ~~(x = x) V ~(x = x) is a theorem of S NOT provable without propositional axioms. Homework Equations Let ƒ be a mapping from the set of formulas to the set of truth values such that...- hatsu27

Undergrad Infinite and finite countable sets
Ok I understand the concept of infinite countability and that say the set of all rational #s is infinitely countable, but if I needed to represent the set how do I do that? S={xε rat. # : x= k , k ε a rational #}? that doesn't seem right. Also say I wanted to show a set of finite countable...- hatsu27

How Far Will the Weight Drop When a 12 lb Weight is Added to a Stretched Spring?
Ok from there I got my diferential eq. y" + 64 = 0 so my x(t) = c1cos(8t)+c2sin(8t) and from there my sinusoidal is ((sqrt10)/3)cos(8t+tan-1(3)) So to find out how far the wieght would drop i take the derivative and set it = to zero and solve for t yes? Does all this look good to u?- hatsu27

How Far Will the Weight Drop When a 12 lb Weight is Added to a Stretched Spring?
Homework Statement A spring is such that it would be stretched 3 in. by a 6 lb. weight. Let the spring first be stretched 4 ins. and then a 12 lb. weight attatched and given an initial velocity of 8 ft/s find out how far the wight will drop. Homework Equations d2y/dx2+(k/w)y=o The...- hatsu27
