Calculating Force on Springs in a Vacuum Chamber
Hi, I have a bottom plate resting on a table (see figure in attachment). On top of this bottom plate is are series of springs and on top of it rests a top plate. Between the bottom and top plate (inside the springs) is a seal to create a vacuum chamber. Question: what is the total force acting...- hermano

Simplifying an Equation with Taylor Series Expansion
f(x) = (1-x)^(1/2) -> f(0)= 1 f'(x) = (1/2)(1-x)^(-1/2) -> f'(0) = 1/2 So the Tyalor expansion will become: (1-x)^(1/2) = 1 + (1/2) (x) and not (1-x)^(1/2) = 1 - (1/2) (x) as when I replace x by (-x) in the Taylor expansion for (1+x)^(1/2) Or what do I wrong?- hermano

Simplifying an Equation with Taylor Series Expansion
Homework Statement In a paper I have found there is a simplification of an equation which I do not understand. How did they do this? Can someone explain this step by step? Homework Equations The euqation is as follows: X = e \cos\theta + \sqrt{(R^2 + e^2 \sin^2 \theta)} X =...- hermano

Graduate Combining probability distribution functions
I want to calculate the total uncertainty. So I think you have to add them, but I am not really sure as they are independent. But that is the question of my whole problem. How do I have to "combine" the probability distributions from the various error components? Uncertainty is the component...- hermano

Graduate Combining probability distribution functions
With error component I mean the error source. For example, you measure the length of a bar. Then there are different error components/sources (or uncertainty components) which contribute to the total measurement uncertainty such as, the limited resolution of your ruler, the thermal expansion of...- hermano

Graduate Combining probability distribution functions
Hi, I'm comparing different measurement methods. I listed and derived an equation for each error component per measurement method and calculated the probability distribution using the Monte-Carlo method (calculating each error 300.000 times assuming a normal distribution of the input...- hermano

Graduate Understanding the Navier-Stokes Equations: Conservation of Momentum and More
Hi, Stupid question: the Navier-Stokes equations, do they only consist of the equations for a statement of the conservation of momentum or do they also include the equations for conservation of mass (continuity equation), conservation of energy and an equation of state? Thanks. -

How to increase the convergence speed?
Hi, I'm using the finite difference method to solve both the Reynolds Equation and the Poisson equation in order to calculate the air pressure of a porous air bearing.
