Graduate Problem with the physics behind charged, isolated conductors
There is something that I do not understand completely with regards to charged, isolated conductors. Gauss' law implies the following: "If an excess charge is placed on an isolated conductor, that amount of charge will move entirely to the surface of the conductor. None of the excess...- J Goodrich

Graduate Frame of references in time dilation
Let's suppose that I am the Captain at a space dock sitting in interstellar space. My crew decides to go on a trip in our ship, so they board and set off at .9c. t = t0 / sqrt( 1 - v^2/c^2 ), t0 = 1, v = .9c, therefore t = 1 / sqrt( .19 ) = 2.3 (approximately) So as they speed off, 1...- J Goodrich

Graduate Can an Infinitely Long Rod Spinning at Light Speed Exhibit Relativistic Effects?
There is no such rod of negligible weight though, which I believe is important, because I don't believe it would be impossible to rotate any physically existent rod to behave in such a manner where its outer points would be rotating above c.- J Goodrich

Schools Requirements for engineering for college (ib student)
Are you talking about SAT Subject Tests or just classes taken in high school? Either way, it depends on the university and program. As a rule of thumb, more selective schools would probably like to see at least a year of calculus, physics, and chemistry, but this is just a rule of thumb. I...- J Goodrich

Undergrad Algebraic expression rewritting
is there any expansion of (a+b)^(1/3) + (a-b)^(1/3) or any other manipulation that could be done to rewrite this expression, perhaps under one radical or in some other way rather than the addition of two radicals?- J Goodrich

Dual Boot Vista & Linux: Experience and Advice
Does anyone have any experience with this on their computers? I have minimal experience with Linux, but since I'm going to school in a week to begin a degree in electrical engineering, I thought having a Linux OS on my system would be a good move. My HD is 455 gigabytes right now...I was...- J Goodrich

Calc 3 review material suggestions
Can anyone give me some suggestions of some essentials, calc or non-calc, that I should review and be comfortable with in calc 3?
