3 math classes at the same time?
I don't know, it seemed to me when I took number theory, that really it was more of a class on how to write good proofs - the actual "number theory" part is in some sense really easy and straightforward. The hard part of the class was learning how to use all the theorems and lemmas and such to...- jbusc

Schools Reputable post-graduate distance-learning universities
you can get masters degrees in engineering through: http://den.usc.edu However, this seems to be not what you're looking for, since you seem to want a) physics, not engineering (though mechanical/aerospace engineering has a lot of fluid dynamics kind of stuff as well) b) phd, and not...- jbusc

Talk Out Loud to Help Learn: Control the Habit
well i don't mean to imply that there's a disability involved...but many people do in fact have processing disabilities which can take interesting forms. I know of one guy who just _has_ to repeat everything his professors say during lecture, out loud - it drives some of them nuts :)...- jbusc

Talk Out Loud to Help Learn: Control the Habit
if you do plan on mouthing or whispering during a test, you should tell the professor and the proctor (if it's a TA) and tell them you plan on doing it, and that you're fine if they want to seat you appropriately if they're concerned, etc. If you really can't do without, or you find profs to...- jbusc

Deciding Math or CS: Last Year of College
I would not really miss taking stuff like software engineering and databases, as long as you end up with your CS degree, people aren't really going to scrutinize your transcript that closely. Though if you specifically intend to go into a career path that involves one of those subjects, it...- jbusc

Studying Modern VLSI Textbook Recommendations for Technological Advancements
Don't get me wrong, Kang+Leblebici is primarily a VLSI design text, and focuses primarily on design and methodology, etc., and assumes you've had some prerequisite course on basic solid state devices (though it does not really assume that much). What I was trying to say was that it is...- jbusc

Studying Modern VLSI Textbook Recommendations for Technological Advancements
Rabaey is popular, but a lot of people seem to complain that it's description of some important topics is somewhat incomplete. Kang and Leblebici is actually very thorough, and treats things very rigourously - plus it describes the device physics very precisely as well. Downside - it can be...- jbusc

BA Physics at Boston Univ - Does a BA Matter?
my professor who I had for both advanced mechanics and advanced E&M, he was upset because he had to graduate with a BA in physics instead of a BS, even though he had completed all the courses for the BS, because of some technicality. He got into graduate school in physics, got his phd and is...- jbusc

What Are Your Opinions on Schaum's Outlines?
Schaum's outlines can be very good (in some cases better than pricey textbooks) however the quality varies widely depending on author. Some schaum's outlines are just not good at all (I particularly don't like their quantum mechanics, for example) and it's worth the extra for something like...- jbusc

Schools Grad schools in california for physics?
Since it was brought up :) I'll plug to look into the real USC (not in santa cruz) since the EE dept has a lot of people in photonics and solid state, etc - plenty of experience and a few new hotshots too. The physics dept here has some people too, but mainly EE for that here. Not to mention...- jbusc

Graduate Function required to be integral - (measure theory?)
Hi, Some time ago one of my professors told us about a remarkable theorem, which stated something along the lines of: if a function i takes two arguments, one being another function f, and the other being some region R on which the function f is defined, and this function i satisfies some... -

Achieving a Good Grade in an AP Physics Test with Self-Study
I self-studied both AP Physics C tests (mechanics + E&M) and a couple more AP's also...and I did get 5's on them, so it's possible. It depends on how comfortable you already feel with the material, how disciplined with the self-studying you are, and how much experience you have with self-study...- jbusc

Courses Should I bother retaking freshman courses to improve GPA?
Actually, I looked up the rules for my school and I was a bit wrong. The rule is that a student can repeat any course with D+ or below and both grades are factored into the GPA, and with a C-, C, or C+ a special petition can be filed to request repeating (with both grades counting) under very...- jbusc

Courses Should I bother retaking freshman courses to improve GPA?
Does your school even let you retake courses to increase your GPA? Here, you have to have an F in a course to retake it for GPA, and both grades are still computed in the GPA (except for freshman, who can repeat with a D or F, and can have only the new grade computed)- jbusc
