Graduate A night with the stars (Brian Cox on telly)
I am also concerned about the specifics of this statement. However, it appears to me that some microscopic property of a particle must be measured in order for the same property in other particles to be known. However, heating the diamond between his hands hardly constitutes a measurement of any...- jmk9

Graduate Is there a general method for solving advection-diffusion equations?
Thank you for the reply, greatly appreciated. The other thread I am referring to is https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=492001" What I have done is substitute only f(x,t)=\frac{1}{2\pi}\int e^{ikx}\tilde{f}(k,t)dk and then proceed from there...- jmk9

Can anyone comment if this solution is correct? I have a feeling it is not but I need to know why! thanks in advance- jmk9

Graduate Solving Diffusion equation with Convection
I had a similar equation which I would like to solve but with variable coefficients; I have produced a solution which I feel is wrong and have posted it - twice - but nobody seemed to be willing to offer their insight. Anyway, significant progress can be made for your problem with Fourier...- jmk9

Graduate Is there a general method for solving advection-diffusion equations?
I am trying to solve a transport problem which in its most general form is a diffusion-advection equation with variable coefficients: \frac{\partial f(x,t)}{\partial t}=a(x,t)\frac{\partial^2 f(x,t)}{\partial x^2}+b(x,t)\frac{\partial f(x,t)}{\partial x}+c(x,t)f(x,t) I am...- jmk9

Graduate Unsuccessful attempts to solve a linear second order PDE system
Oh, I see. Well thanks for taking this on anyway, much appreciated. Do you think you can ask him what steps I should take, roughly? I have managed to see a solution to something similar in modelling flow-reactors... apparently they somehow set it up with difference equations... But I am not...- jmk9

Dear Entropee, Thank you very much, if you friend/colleague finds something that would be great! This system has been doing my head in for a long time! J- jmk9

Graduate Unsuccessful attempts to solve a linear second order PDE system
Dear All, I am trying to solve the following system of PDEs \frac{\partial{A}}{\partial{t}}= a_{2}\frac{\partial{{^{2}}A}}{\partial{x^{2}}}-a_{1}\frac{\partial{A}}{\partial{x}}-a_{0}A+b_{0}B \frac{\partial{B}}{\partial{t}}=...- jmk9
