Verifying phi(x) is an explicit solutionDomain = RInterval: x>=-2
y'=1=[2/root(x+2)] Then I plugged it into the original and got both sides to equal. BUT I still have no idea what the original question is actually asking me to do in each part?- joeseppe

Verifying phi(x) is an explicit solutionDomain = RInterval: x>=-2
Just started Engineering Math III and have a question. Sorry about the notation, our library computers have scripts disabled. My math prof does a poor job of explaining the concepts. Help me out! Homework Statement Verify the indicated function y=phi(x) is an explicit solution of the...- joeseppe

Plane to Ship Displacement (using component method)
Yeah I did draw a diagram, I just don't have a scanner to upload it. I never thought to look at it as two triangles though. So what I actually should have is: Shipx=15.4sin57 = 12.9i Shipy=15.4cos57 = -8.39j Planex=19.4sin30 = 9.7i km Planey=19.4cos30 = -16.8j km Planez=2.06k km Therefore...- joeseppe

Plane to Ship Displacement (using component method)
Really? So Sin is for the X direction, and cos is for the Y? That's not what my textbook says?- joeseppe

Plane to Ship Displacement (using component method)
Homework Statement A coastguard station locates a ship at range 15.4 km and bearing 123° clockwise from north. From the same station a plane is at horizontal range 19.4 km, 150° clockwise from north, with elevation 2.06 km. What is the vector displacement from plane to ship, let i represent...- joeseppe

Functions 12U - Basic Polynomial questions
Righto I missed that one, so the next lines should be: 2016 = x^3 + 25x^2 + 150x + 500 0 = x^3 + 25x^2 + 150x -1516 Then I would just use factor theorem to solve for x, does that work out in this case?- joeseppe

Functions 12U - Basic Polynomial questions
Alright, thanks for the help :) Typo on the first one, let me try again ;) Problem One 1008 = [(10+x)(10+x)(5+x)] / 2 Solution Attempt 504=[(10+x)(10+x)(5+x)] 504= (100+10x+10x+x^2)(5+x) 504= 500 + 50x + 5x^2 + 100x + 20x^2 + x^3 504 = x^3 + 25x^2 + 150x + 500 0 = x^3 +...- joeseppe

Thanks everyone for your help. Especially Tedjn for all that typing! I'm still completely lost on 12b,12c and 14. What you typed doesn't even makes sense to me  Anyways, at least I'm better off then I was before I posted here, even if I couldn't figure everything out. I attribute it...- joeseppe
