Odds of Universe Occurring: Have You Heard?

I have heard before that the odds of the universe occurring, with the level of order in it, by random chance is something like one times ten to the negative fiftieth power. Have any of you heard anything on the subject?

What is the Amperage Rating of a 3-Pronged Edison Plug

I know this isn't quite what you mean when you say electrical engineering, but, how many amps is a standard three-pronged edison plug rated at? Also, what is common house wiring rated at? I believe that a three-pronged plug is rated at 15 amps and that logically the wiring should be able to...

Optimizing Bottle Rocket Nosecone Length for Science Olympiad

I belong to an organization named Science Olympiads. One event is named Bottle Rockets. The object is to shoot a 1L soda bottle into the air and put as much time as you can between launch and touchdown. My question is this, what is the best ratio of length for the nosecone on a rocket? It seems...

MIDI to MP3: Free & Legal Conversions?

Does anyone know of a program or method to translate MIDI files into MP3 format? There are a number of freeware or shareware MIDI sites that don't mention the legality of downloading a file, so I assume that it is legal. There are some really great MIDI conversions out there but the program I...

Solving Relativity Paradox & Problems in Physics

Okay, the wheel was a bad example of what I was thinking about. Assuing that it is possible for the speed of light to be attained... We have a square shaped spaceship moving at the speed of light. A--B |||| C--D What will happen if the ship moves into a turn to follow a circular...

Why is the second derivative expressed differently in Lebnit's notation?

Thank you for that terrific analogy. What a lightbulb.

Why is the second derivative expressed differently in Lebnit's notation?

Maybe I was confused... is does dx= d times x or is dx like one variable (dx)? I am assuming that dx= d times x, as such I don't understand why it isn't d²y/d²x². Is my perception of the nomenclature wrong?

Why is the second derivative expressed differently in Lebnit's notation?

I am in my first year of calculus at the high school level so be patient with me. Why is it that in Lebnit's (spelling?) notation the second derivative is expressed as d²y/dx² ? My instructor did not know and from what we could work out it seems as if it should be expressed as d²y/d²x². We...

Solving Relativity Paradox & Problems in Physics

To start off, I am in my second year of high school physics so please be discriptive if you make reference to any sort of theory. We have begun to study relativity, and two things occurred to me. First, assuming that nothing can go faster than the speed of light, could two spaceships...
