Hi
I have a few more courses I need to take to finish my degree in math. I'm considering taking them online. I'm wondering if anyone could tell me their experience with either Athabasca or Thompson River Open Learning.
The courses I'm thinking of taking are...
Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm now trying to understand the formula given in my text I=\frac{P}{A}
So I'm thinking that I_1=\frac{P}{\pi r^2}?
If so then I_2=\frac{P}{\pi r^2}=6I_1=\frac{6P}{\pi 0.17^2}.
so r=0.0694m. Thus the distance from from the lense is 10.1cm. I entered this...

Thank you for taking the time to look. I think I get the basic idea here but I'm must be missing something important. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is Gallians book really so bad that I should read Artin's. If I've already gone through most of Gallians how much of the material will be rehashed again in what I'm sure is a better book? Isn't there a better book that would lead itself to someone who's gone over the basics? Or is Artin's...
Hi Mathwonk.
I'm looking to pick up a book in Algebra to work through over the summer. I took a course last fall where we used "Contemporary Abstract Algebra" by Gallian, so I was curious if you could recommend a good text to follow up. Thanks in advance.

I finished a course in Algebra last semester and I've decided that Algebra is the best math for me. I'd really like to know more. I studied Gallians book though I looked through Herstiens a bit as well. The problem is that my school doesn't have a second course in Algebra so I have to study...
take away your distractions. Everyone stuggles with this (i think). For me I take my wireless card out of my comp, leave my cell phone at home and go to the library or coffee shop. Once I've gotten some progress then I feel more motivated.
Also, I find that making excuses for myself is...
I liked Gallian's book ("Modern Abstract Algebra") and would recommend it.
I referenced Herstein's "Topics in Algebra" at times during that course when I wanted clairity and I found it to be a great book as welll. I'm sure many hear will recommend it as well.
Either can be found rather...
I'm curious now, how common are make up midterms. I'm in my 3rd year and I don't know of anyone who has received one. I didn't even know that happened after grade 12.
