Finding Two Tangents for a Given Point on a Quadratic Function
Yes, that is the same solution our teacher brought. But I just could not figure out, why mine did not work :) I guess it just doesn't work...- KayVee

Finding Two Tangents for a Given Point on a Quadratic Function
Homework Statement The teacher proposed a problem today during a math session. He gave the function : f(x) = x2-6x+5 - and a point P(4,-6). Our mission was to find two tangents for the given point. I thought it was easy, just differentiate the function, and insert the differentiate function...- KayVee

I can't connect my mathematics with reality
That's exactly it! I can understand mathematically how a system works, but I can't make sense of it. I came to think about this in our last lab test. I don't think that I learned anything, or what I learned I couldn't make use of in class. But then again, this may very well just be me being...- KayVee

Programs Am i a pathetic math major who just doesn't see it yet?
There is also in my class, a strong connection between mathematics and writing skills. This is an interesting observation, that I've never noticed before.- KayVee

I can't connect my mathematics with reality
I guess It's as real life as it gets. I just thought the other students see more what is physically possible, while I see what is mathematically possible in a circuit. I think that was what I'm trying to say.- KayVee

I can't connect my mathematics with reality
It's kinda hard to describe my education. I'm studying to be an machine chief (The ones they use on board ships), and It involves a lot of electrical circuits. The far fetched one was to describe my "problem", If i could ever make sense of what I do with reality. Maybe it's not a problem...- KayVee

I can't connect my mathematics with reality
I can't connect my mathematics with "reality" I'm in a school where we work a lot with electrical circuits, which include a lot of math. Sometimes the teacher tries to connect the circuits with reality, like giving them a "physical" meaning, like trying to explain how a stove works. When he...- KayVee

My Professor says I have no talent - should I persist?
I would ask my self, what I will be doing in the future. If your goal is academia, I guess a PhD is good and mandatory, but if you're just looking for work in your field, you could probably do just as well with a masters, as a PhD.- KayVee

What Career Opportunities are Available with an Astronomy Degree?
twofish-quant: I live in a very small country, with a population of 48.000, give or take. I plan to live other places in the world, like the US maybe, and there make use of my astronomy degree, outside of academia. And when I return home (And I probably will), a school teacher is pretty much the...- KayVee

What Career Opportunities are Available with an Astronomy Degree?
Since I was a little kid I've always found the outer space to be fascinating. I'm currently studying to become a Maritime chief engineer. It includes a lot of calculating electrical circuits, mathematics and physics (We call them level C, B and A - A being highest) at college level, and some...- KayVee

Finding the function with two coordiantes and one f'(x) cord.
Homework Statement I'm having troubles calculating a function, because one of the given data is: f'(2)=1 The other two are f(0)=3.5 and f(5)=6. If three "normal" coordinates are given, i.e (0 ; 3,5) (5 ; 6) and the last one was (2 ; 1), there would be no problem. But how can I...- KayVee

Who are the people who study physics and maths?
I often wonder about what type of people study math and physics. I am currently in a Maritime school, studying to be machine chief. It's sort of difficult to explain the education. We have Maths on A level, physics on B, chemistry C and a bunch of electrical courses, which is the hardest of them...- KayVee

A simple diagram of two heat resistors.
Sorry tiny-tim, for the late reply. But I cracked the case :D I found the total ampere for the second diagram, and then just setting the information I had in: U=I*R. I knew that the total resistance in the serial diagram var 146,67 Ohm. There is even a simpler way to find the res. for each...- KayVee

A simple diagram of two heat resistors.
I see that I need to put up my own work/study on the circuit, but now I see that I was going no where :P So, the power for the parallel is: P = W / t = 2112kJ / 1200s = 1,76 kW. Then the (sum of the?) parallel resistors: R = V~2 / P = 220~2 / 1,75 kW = 27500 kOhm. Can I then say that...- KayVee
