High School Can sound travel faster than a speeding jet?
supposing the outside air temperature is not afffecting things inside the jet(whatever is the shock wave theory), then A & B should be feeling like they are talking in a discussion room! this is because when you say that A hears something being said, it means that the sound vibrations reach A's...- kendr_pind

Undergrad WHY is the sun red during rise and set
during the sunrise and sunset, we find the sun reddish in color...why is it so...my view is that as the distance to Earth during these times is longer than mid-day, and applying doppler effect, as the sun nears the apparent wavelength decreases and so is the perceived color...is this approach...- kendr_pind

Question about return current in high speed design
one interesting question regarding reflections in a board... mathematically when there is a mismatch in impedance at the load side, the signal might reflect...the question is what physical phenomenon causes it to really alter the voltage levels at the load side...- kendr_pind

Composition of Earth's Core & Current Model for Magnetic Field
I c..so if these two are different, y the emphasis is only on how magnetic fields are produced and not how gravitational fields are produced?? Also is there any way to create a gravitational field in a lab the way we create a magnetic field...?- kendr_pind

Undergrad Proof Complex Numbers: How to Prove |z1|^2/|z2|^2 = |z1/z2|^2
simply define z1 = a + jb and z2 = l + jm; LHS - take modulus of each and keep it aside...i.e., a^2 + b^2 is modulus; RHS - Rationalise the den. & num., i.e, z1/z2 = (a + jb)*(l - jm)/(l2 + m2); separate out the real & imaginary parts...u'll find LHS = RHS...- kendr_pind

Undergrad Why does a rocket need fire in its tail
when u burn something it heats the air near its surroundings...when heat increases in an area, a partial vacuum is created in that place causing the surrounding air to occupy this vaccuum...i.e. air moves from high pressure to low pressure area... knock - its a sudden application of force...the...- kendr_pind

Undergrad Why does a rocket need fire in its tail
if u burn the fuel, then the air below the rocket is at very low pressure and the air above the rocket is at high pressure(relatively)..so will the rocket not face any knock by the air over its head...- kendr_pind

Undergrad Bullet Velocity Matching Gravity on a High Platform?
do u guys mean to say that a meteorite will hit at the terminal velocity...! in this case the initial velocity is much much greater than terminal velocity... simply throw a piece of iron at a magnet with whatever force u can..when it hits the magnet obviously it will hit with a velocity more...- kendr_pind

Undergrad What Makes Solitons Different from Normal Waves?
a soliton is a giant wave which doesn't get obstructed by anything...it destroys anything in its path...it keeps on increasing in its intensity...a soliton might typically occur when a meteorite hits oceans...- kendr_pind

A Model of Human Population Growth: Is a Breaking Point Coming?
correct...but i want to emphasize the fact that humans can't obviously live for ever..somewhere we might have to grow lesser and lesser..are the govts taking any step towards these...cos left at that i think this burn out point will come very soon...- kendr_pind

Undergrad Why does a rocket need fire in its tail
accord. to Newton's laws, action <=> reaction, like how a balloon moves up if u blow air in it and then leave it at once...the air comes out with a force(action) and the balloon moves up(reaction)...the same principle in rocket...but with a difference...the gas actually burns...so the question...- kendr_pind

Composition of Earth's Core & Current Model for Magnetic Field
if the Earth's magnetism is due to revolving currrents, then this magnetism is basically something we've seen in motors and in so many other magnets...while these magnets attract only iron, howcome Earth's magnetic field attracts every other object...- kendr_pind

A Model of Human Population Growth: Is a Breaking Point Coming?
i was just wondering abt this thing for a while... the total no. of human beings are increasing over the decades...which means some %ge of the Earth's matter is getting converted in the form of humans...suppose if the population goes on increasing, then theoretically there should be only humans...- kendr_pind

Undergrad Is There a Shorter Proof for 0.999... = 1?
lot of unrelated chatter which doesn't really answer the real question...ie 1/9 = 0.11111... so is 1 = 0.9999999...? Now as there are infinite numbers between 0 & 1, and suppose an insect is moving on a table...it starts at point zero and starts moving at a constant speed...so now it covers 0...- kendr_pind

Undergrad Electric charges moving and magnetic field
to answer haiha's question, typically in an electrical ckt, the electrons don't move around with speed of light..infact surprisingly it moves with a drift velocity. this is typically around 1cm/sec ! yes, electrons' drift velocity is very slow...it is the velocity of the signal that moves with...- kendr_pind
