What causes the dimming effect in an LED with solar panel and mirror setup?
I know there are windows which act as solar panels, but they're made in a different way than traditional silicon-cell solar panels, and they're much less efficient.- KevinMcGovern

What causes the dimming effect in an LED with solar panel and mirror setup?
Assuming the sun had gone down and the device's only source of power was the LED, I would think that it would gradually lose energy. Some of the radiant energy would become thermal(however small an amount) and it would eventually go out. Now, running on a full charge from the sun and then...- KevinMcGovern

Engineering What High School Classes Are Needed to Become a Computer Hardware Engineer?
Depends on the University. I live in Ontario, Canada and all of the programs I've seen require English, Physics, Chemistry, Advanced Functions and Calculus/Vectors. I'm not sure where you live, but I'm sure there would be equivalent courses. But in general, it is an Engineering program, so...- KevinMcGovern

Undergrad Why Won't My Coilgun Charge? Troubleshooting Tips for Aspiring Physicists
Will do! I wear Rubber Gloves anytime I'm doing anything with the capacitors. It's clumsy, but it works. I just recoiled the tube with the new wire and hooked 1.5V and 9V batteries to it and it is creating an electromagnet, so now it's just a matter of resoldering all of the capacitors...- KevinMcGovern

Undergrad Why Won't My Coilgun Charge? Troubleshooting Tips for Aspiring Physicists
I discovered that my wire does not conduct electricity at all. I have no idea why, but I tried different wires hooked up to a motor and it ran, but the wire I used for the capacitors and coil didn't. So I'm trying out household wire, because I have tons and it worked. Plus it's already insulated.- KevinMcGovern

Undergrad Why Won't My Coilgun Charge? Troubleshooting Tips for Aspiring Physicists
I have 2 camera circuits. I tried them both with the 1.5V first, and eventually sacrificed one for science. It popped as soon as I connected the 12V, but I still have 1 good one.- KevinMcGovern

Undergrad Why Won't My Coilgun Charge? Troubleshooting Tips for Aspiring Physicists
Hello, I am a Grade 11 student and for a Physics project I am constructing a Coilgun. I've done quite a bit of research into actually building the Coilgun, but when it came time to charge it, it refuses to charge. I've used, 1.5V, 9V, a 12V Car Battery, and none of them will charge the...- KevinMcGovern

Formula for Sodium Thiosulfate: Na2S2O3 - Jules
You're replacing an Oxygen atom with a Sulfur atom. The original compound is Sodium Sulfate, which is Na2SO4, but when it becomes Sodium Thiosulfate, one of the Oxygen atoms is replaced with a Sulfur atom. So it becomes N2S2O3. If it were to be Sodium Dithiosulfate, you would replace 2 Oxygen...- KevinMcGovern

Engineering Daily Work of a Mechanical Engineer
Not sure if this is the place for this thread and after looking through 5 pages of a search, I didn't find a similar topic, but please tell me if I'm wrong. As you can tell I'm new, so hello, I'll probably be on here more in a few months as I'll be starting grade 11 and may need help...- KevinMcGovern
