Newtons law of cooling vs conduction equation in solids

I know that Newtons law of cooling is useful when a solid is transferring heat to a fluid. And conduction equation is used in solids. My question is: 1) Can Newtons law of cooling be applied in case of solids (apart from Heat conduction equation)? 2) Can Newtons law of cooling be applied in...

Undergrad Science of Wakes: Low Pressure Region Explained

we all know wakes are very much undesirable. Also, wakes are of generally very low pressure region. Why is is so? Discussions are welcome

Graduate What are the benefits of studying Fourier series in physics?

Another question, why do we have to linearize before applying laplace transforms? can't they be applied directly to non linear differential equations before linearization?

Graduate What are the benefits of studying Fourier series in physics?

Thanks! But are they only used for non linear differential equations? Can they be used to solve any sort of non linear equations to always give an analytic solution? And what are their limitations? Thanks in advance!

Graduate What are the benefits of studying Fourier series in physics?

Use of Laplace Transforms! What is the use of Laplace transforms in differential equations? I mean, why are they used? And can you please explain the "s" domain in the Laplace Transform! I studied that it is a variable in the complex plane! But, i want to grow upon that! Please help!

can non linear differential equations have analytic solutions? In fact, can you please explain why is it so? Thanks in advance! :)

exactly! But, Can you specially mention some practical point of stanton number? and where can it be used? some idea would be welcome!

    Dimensionless Numbers in Heat Transfer

Firstly, my question is - why do we use dimensionless quantities? Next question, I would like to know the physical significance of Nusselt number, Prandtl Number, Sherwood Number, Scmidt Number, Peclet Number and Gratez Number! Thanks in advance!

Undergrad Science of disturbing a spinning top

In case of a spinning top, why is it that when it is deflected, it again returns to it's original spinning track? Like suppose it is spinning. And then, we disturb it by our hand. It deflects momentarily, yet, it again returns to its own spinning axis? Can you explain the reason?
