Undergrad Weighted average of a set of slopes with different goodness of fit
Basically I am changing something incrementally and systematically (x-axis) and noting the induced change that occurs in another quality (y-axis). The response tends to be linearly increasing, y = mx. I repeated this measurement on four different samples from the same "batch", so that...- latitude

Undergrad Weighted average of a set of slopes with different goodness of fit
Hi there, I have a bit of a confusing question, but I'll try to be as clear as I can in asking it. I have a set of linear fits for four different sets of data. Basically, I have three sets of data, with sample sizes N1 = 5, N2 = 7, N3 = 5 respectively. I have plotted these data with...- latitude

Engineering Engineering Masters or Law School?
Thank you all for your replies. I think at the moment I am leaning towards the Masters. The good news is, I can apply for law school, and if I get in next year, re-evaluate at that point, after having completed a few months of the masters. That should give me a good idea of whether I'm...- latitude

Engineering Engineering Masters or Law School?
Hey guys. I'd like some advice. I graduated with a B.Sc. in physics this past May. I am working in a research capacity in a Nanotech Lab at a university in the Department of Electrical Engineering, being paid below minimum. I have applied to start a Master's in Electrical Engineering in...- latitude

Schools The most prestigious university in the entire world?
That's my university! But I must say, good luck getting into their medical school. No offense, but you have like zero chance. Mostly because it doesn't exist- latitude

What would a dimension with unstable forces be like?
I would say that there is definitely more variation than those two scenarios you give, maverick. Extension of an idea beyond what is perhaps proven to be possible is very common, and I think most people would happily read a science fiction book containing these extensions without feeling the...- latitude

What would a dimension with unstable forces be like?
I think your ideas sound very cool. And you're right, the very best of sci-fi incorporates strong and legitimate science into it. One thing I would caution you is to avoid pseudo-scientific words and jargon like "proto-matter" and "law of cohesion"-- people with an education in those areas...- latitude

Schools Can I Get to Grad School with a Four year BSc (Physics)
Thanks so much for all the replies. I agree with the statement that the Honours degree is becoming the norm for people on the grad-school track. I will, however, have taken the majority of the courses needed to graduate with an Honours degree, I will only be two or three short. Perhaps...- latitude

Should I Switch from Physics to Engineering?
Hey all, I'm a third/coming fourth year physics major and I'm starting to get a little apprehensive. Graduation is looming and I don't know if this degree is going to do very much for me. I'm afraid that when I graduate I will have no prospects for a job or career or no acceptances to grad...- latitude

How Can I Improve My Study Habits After Failing Calculus 2?
I agree with the person above. You need to learn how to write exams. You need to be making practice tests for yourself and timing yourself so that you can finish difficult test questions comfortably within the allotted time. And never leave a question blank, never ever, no matter how menial or...- latitude

Diffrence between negative accelaration and positive decelaration?
If you visualize it as a number line as the other poster suggested, you could say that the object in motion acclerates to the right (positive acceleration), accelerates to the left (negative acceleration), accelerates to the left (positive deceleration) and accelerates to the right (negative...- latitude
