High School Calculator automatic rounding is screwing up my calculation.
Hi, When I type into my calculator 13.6/(1.000000001) the calculator returns the answer 13.59999999 Then, when I type 13.6/(1.0000000001) the calculator returns the answer 13.6. Obviously, both 13.6/(1.0000000001) and 13.6/1 cannot equal 13.6, so what's the deal with the calculator...- Lebombo

Force and Energy of a block on a spring as it compresses.
Homework Statement Suppose is a 10kg block sitting at rest on the ledge of a building 20 meters tall. The 10kg block applies a Force of F = ma = 10kg(10m/s^2) = 100N. The potential energy with reference to the ground would then be PE = mgh = 10kg(10m/s^2)(20m) = 2000J. If the 10kg block is...- Lebombo

10kg Block free falls from 500ft to 2ft into the ground.
Thank you. I'm not sure how SHM applies. After looking it up, I know it is called Simple Harmonic Motion, but not yet familiar with the equation or the physics it describes. When it comes to compression of an object as a force is applied to it, I just learned Hook's Law. Is it correct to...- Lebombo

10kg Block free falls from 500ft to 2ft into the ground.
Thank you for your response. If the force of gravity applied to the block is 100N and the Net Force on the block as it is driven into the ground is 25,000N, then the average force of the ground on the block is F_{net} + F_{gravity} = F_{ground} = 25,000N + 100N = 25,100N. Is this the correct...- Lebombo

10kg Block free falls from 500ft to 2ft into the ground.
Hi, may I request help or quick review to ensure that I present an accurate understanding of this concept. I want to move begin learning about the free fall of one block onto another block, but would like to be sure that I understand the physics of work, force, and energy of one block. Thank...- Lebombo

Graduate Work, Energy, Force of Pile Driver and Pile
In thinking about this more, it seems like the force of the ground or dirt on the pile is a major factor in the motion of pile. If the ground is so hard that the pile does not move into the ground at all, then the work that the driver does on the pile is zero. And the work that the pile does on... -
Graduate Work, Energy, Force of Pile Driver and Pile
Work, energy, force of P & D Hi, I'd like to better understand the physics of an object's net force when another object collides with it, such as a pile driver applying a force to drive a pile into the ground. Questions: A pile driver drops from 500 meters (falls for 10 seconds at 10m/s^2... -

Area of a triangle (cross product lesson)
Homework Statement Youtube: Lec 2 | MIT 18.02 Multivariable Calculus, Fall 2007 (Video time frame: between 11:00 minutes and 12:30 minutes) Find the area of a triangle. Area = \frac{1}{2}(base)(height) = \frac{1}{2}|a||b|sinθ The lecturer says to first find cosine of the angle using dot...- Lebombo

Projection Using Dot Product Finding a Force (Boat Problem)
Okay, I think I am organizing my understanding of the terms better here: w= \frac{F.v}{llvll}\frac{v}{llvll} = \frac{F.v}{llvll} - is the scalar. \frac{v}{llvll} - is the vector (unit vector). we can use a vector of magnitude 1, 10, 20 or any magnitude because when the numerator and...- Lebombo

Projection Using Dot Product Finding a Force (Boat Problem)
Okay, Mark, so the objective for including a vector v is to turn the scalor llwll into a vector w. That I understand. However it is which vector to choose that I am wondering about. From my understanding, I can choose a vector of any magnitude I choose, as long as it contains the correct...- Lebombo

Convert the polar equation to rectangular form.
Like so: r = 3sinθ becomes (r=3\frac{y}{r}) = (r =\sqrt{3y}) ? or solving for y, (y = \frac{r^2}{3}) or do you mean something like this: (\frac{y}{r} = sinθ ) becomes (\frac{y}{3sinθ} = sinθ) = (y = 3sin^{2}θ)- Lebombo
