How Can I Teach Myself Chemistry After 20 Years Away from Textbooks?
After 20 years of being a locksmith, I have decided that I want to get a college degree and I'll be starting next year! As part of my degree, I will be doing two chemistry courses which will cover: - Intermolecular forces, chemical equilibrium, energy considerations and chemical reactivity...- Lockie123

What is a good arithmetic textbook?
@ NTW Would there have been any disadvantage for students in later topics such as algebra and calculus if they just started with the 'Tracht' method for arithmetic though instead of adding and multiplying using tables?- Lockie123

What is a good arithmetic textbook?
@NTW Yes, I've heard of that book! Did schools actually use that book in their arithmetic classes before moving on to pre-algebra?- Lockie123

What is a good arithmetic textbook?
@NTW That's a shame, perhaps I can find some of them online. Do you know the titles of some of the books? I hear a lot about old math textbooks, are they generally better than the textbooks we have today?- Lockie123

What is a good arithmetic textbook?
I am looking for an arithmetic book to use before going on to pre-algebra. However I don't want a book that says "28 + 53, add 8 + 3, carry the 1, etc). I'm looking for a book that has a better approach. For example, instead of that approach, saying "28 + 53 = 30 + 51 = 81" - something like...- Lockie123

Math Textbook Recommendations for a LockSmith Starting College
Thanks for the help so far! @Feryn In regards to the theory based textbooks, does that mean some theory based textbooks don't show you or get you to work out how to apply the knowledge to questions? Often are the questions much more difficult in skill based or theory based textbooks? Lastly...- Lockie123

@Feryn Will both textbooks cover the same content though? I assume the skill based one will just be more brief?- Lockie123

Math Textbook Recommendations for a LockSmith Starting College
[FONT=Arial]@Feryn I decided to go with "Basic Mathematics" by Serge Lang. It looks good! I plan to move on to more complex books afterwards. I just have a quick question though, I am preparing for an engineering degree. When I have the choice between two good textbooks - one skill based, the...- Lockie123

Math Textbook Recommendations for a LockSmith Starting College
@Simon Bridge I haven't found any online course or course summary to guide me. Also, maybe I shouldn't have said 'best of the best' but how about just any recommendations to help me learn math from the ground up using textbooks that are clear, proof-based and to the point?- Lockie123
