Engineering Calculating the safe load of a glued structure with given shear stress
Thank you very much, I was able to get the correct answer! I finally realised that the maximum shear stress applies at y=0, but the shear stress provided is for the glued joints at y = 1cm, therefore I can't just use the equation for maximum shear stress.- maitake91

Engineering Calculating the safe load of a glued structure with given shear stress
Thank you for your reply! I think it is at x=0 and x=l, therefore the value F I obtain from the equation is P_max/2? In that case I'm getting 5*10^6*(4*6*10^-4)*(2/3) = 8000, which is not 9000 as the given answer suggests and I don't know why.- maitake91

Engineering Calculating the safe load of a glued structure with given shear stress
I have tried to calculate the safe load with the equation of maximum shear stress, A = 4*6*10^-4, and the given shear stress 5MPa, but I couldn't seem to get the right answer which is 18kN.- maitake91

Engineering First law of a thermodynamic system
After crossing out all the variables which I think equals 0 in the equation, I was left with: ∆PE + ∆U = Qin mg (0.2) + ∆U = 300 10*9.81*0.2 - 300 = - ∆U = -280J This was the answer I derived. However, the correct answer was supposed to be 123.3J. Please can someone explain to me how to get...- maitake91

Engineering Solve Value of R: Moment & Equilibrium
I'm sorry, this is my first time using Physics Forum and I wasn't sure about the rules. Thank you for the reminder! I tried to add the question, is it better now?- maitake91

Engineering Solve Value of R: Moment & Equilibrium
Summary:: I need some help with moment when using equations of equilibrium Edit: Sorry I forgot to say what the question was! The question was to solve the value of R based on the diagram below alone. I was solving the question below and I tried to resolve R into a force that is perpendicular...- maitake91
