Online Binary converter capable of 64 digits and has "explain answer" Hello, Does anyone know if there is an online binary converter similar to this one: http://acc6.its.brooklyn.cuny.edu/~gurwitz/core5/nav2tool.html but can take 64 digits (bits I am guessing) instread of just 24...- Major_Energy

Production process theory/equations (Industrial Engineering help)
Hey thanks Gannet! - I am going to hazard a guess that production leveling from lean manufacturing is what I'll start looking into lol- Major_Energy

SSSI (structure-soil-structure interaction)
I used SAP for a silo collapse investigation once and it worked well. It was basically a huge water tank elevated with a bunch of steel beams, and was designed to not collapse from the type of hit it took. I think it modeled what happened very well, and was I was able to find the source of...- Major_Energy

Production process theory/equations (Industrial Engineering help)
Anyone know of some theory or equations to smooth out a 5 stage production sequence? I don't even know what the proper terms and jargon is otherwise I would just google it. Why don't I have an in house industrial engineer? Because its not a factory its a financial industry...- Major_Energy

What is the key to lasting happiness and emotional security?
For what it is worth, the US founding fathers made it clear from the start that the government does not PROVIDE happiness, it simply allows the freedom to do whatever makes you happy. Ben Franklin put it best; "The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to...- Major_Energy

Schools Financing Debt while in Graduate School/ FAFSA
I would definitely recommend, if you are going to take out a loan, as tenparsecs said, fill out the FAFSA and try to get STUDENT loans. They have decent terms, (10 ish years to pay back AFTER graduation of whatever) and one nice thing a lot of times they may be "deferred" meaning you call them...- Major_Energy

Graduate Why Is the Rest Energy of a Hydrogen Atom Less Than the Sum of Its Constituents?
It almost sounds like the question is not where did the energy go, but where did it come from? If the electron is captured into the ground state in order to form a hydrogen atom, the rest mass difference will correspond to exactly 13.6 eV. Which makes sense, but to be "captured" total...- Major_Energy

Graduate What Is Gravity and How Does It Relate to Space-Time and Mass?
Bottom line is, we don’t know much more than Newton, but recently we have found gravity has wavelike properties. Unfortunately, one cannot turn physics off, but we can ignore effects of physics to simplify something. When one turns off Physics, you get Mathematics. You’ll see why later...- Major_Energy

Engineering Which Engineer Actually Uses the Most Math?
I would agree with comp math and Nspyred. I'm a project engineer and maybe 1% of my job is calculation, 9% is figuring out what to calculate, 70% is communicating with and managing people and 20% is quality assurance and looking for critical errors. After a while you can just look at things...- Major_Energy

Engineering My Senior Year- design engineering
"Designing things" is a little broad, is there something more specific you would like to design? Designing in Civil Engineering is generally done by Architects doing space planning, etc. Structural Engineers do structural design, (and a PE puts his name and stamp on the thing guaranteeing it...- Major_Energy

Struggling with University Math: My Experience and Reflections
It happens.. In my Engineering college they did not curve. Below 70 was an F. I remember in my Dynamics class (Mechanics) we started with about 25 in the class. After the first months there were 6 of us left. There was a weekly test that 60% of your grade was based on. Half the class...- Major_Energy

Why is that hard to become a professor?
Is it viable to do post-docs for say 10-20 years, or is there an unwritten understanding that after "X" post-docs you "suck" (for lack of a better term)- Major_Energy

What Are the Experiences of Older Physics Students in Academia?
Hi All, I was wondering, what has been your experiences / observations with older physics students (30 - somethings), either as peers or as a TA / Prof. What generally do they have an easier time with / harder time with / getting along with others in academia. I'll be returning to college...- Major_Energy
