Engineering Which path should i take? (physics vs. engineering)
Where I work there are a lot of people who have received a BS, a Masters or even a PhD in Physics. It does not hurt their careers at all. I would study physics if you like it. Just keep in mind that most physics majors, at least in the US, end up as engineers of one sort or another. The only...- MathAmateur

High School Preserving information/an object for a couple of billion years
Move it to the moon or better yet an asteroid. Information has been preserved there for billions of years. Don't pick a metallic asteroid though, it is likely to be mined by someone or something.- MathAmateur

Is there any field in physics I can major in as Msc?
Is there a software industry in your country? We hire many physics majors. Software is fun and can be very well paid. You could get a MS in Computer Science. After physics, you will find it easy.- MathAmateur

Worried I am wasting my time pursuing a PhD
I know because at least some of them work for me. Physics majors make great software engineers. The reality is though, if you get your PhD, the chances are you will come working for me also, for basically the same salary (although we tend to throw the PhDs the more interesting work). The...- MathAmateur

PhD Field Selection: Tips & Advice
Do what you find fun and interesting. Unless you become one of the small percentage of college professors, it will be the last time you have much influence on what you get to work on except in the gross. Don't waste it on something boring. You are probably just going to end up being a...- MathAmateur

Should i pursue Physics and Mathematics?
Other than a few conceptual ideas, calculus is no more or less difficult than the steps below it. It just requires hard work.- MathAmateur

Undergrad Why are Fourier series important?
Fourier series are important for understanding Fourier Transforms which is one of the most basic elements of signal processing of all sorts (including Khashishi's sound processing). If you are interested in that subject, a good book is the University of Lex's "Who is Fourier. Just be warned...- MathAmateur

Why am I struggling to find job opportunities after gaining industry experience?
Are you in the United States? You shouldn't have a hard time in the US with software. Our company alone is hiring 76 software engineers this winter (or what passes for winter here in southern Arizona) and a lot are for experienced engineers or scientists.- MathAmateur

Physics Can a theoretical physicist do multiple fields?
Maybe. We hire a lot of physics types, but our work is maybe a bit more complex than average. The hardest part of getting a sophisticated degree like particle physics or cosmology is lowering yourself to do the more mundane tasks that us lesser (or less lucky) beings end up doing to earn a...- MathAmateur

Engineering College student with question about power engineering jobs
Why would you want to get a entry level job in software if you are interested in power? Just apply as a power engineer. I would suggest you sign up for the Professional Engineer License exam also. You will need a PE for a career in power.- MathAmateur

Physics Can a theoretical physicist do multiple fields?
With a PhD in theoretical physics you will be welcome in just about any technical field. There are people with Theoretical Physics doing all kinds of things from software to aerospace navigation to, well, theoretical physics. The reality is the vast majority of people who receive PhDs in...- MathAmateur

Academia as a woman who wants a family
Almeisan is right. It is possible, but very difficult. A female friend of mine just got tenure at the University of Arizona and she has three children. However, her husband is VERY supportive and fairly wealthy.- MathAmateur
