Programs Careers with a CS/physics double major?

I already know this. However majoring in the right thing gives you more expertise in a given field, if you understand what I'm saying. You can't get a job in engineering if you don't have an engineering degree for example.

Programs Careers with a CS/physics double major?

@jack476 I'm following rule 1 AND rule 2: to major in what you care about AND what will get you a job ;) You said physics is used in CS in terms of modeling and etc, however wouldn't you need a PhD or masters to work in such a field? And a PhD physics student would probably be preferred over a...

Programs Careers with a CS/physics double major?

I've been doing CS for a year now with the intention to get into software development/software engineering. I decided to do a physics major in addition to my current CS degree. My main reasoning was that there's some overlap in science and CS. So getting a physics degree puts me in a place where...

Programs Should I go for a physics degree?

I never did any high level math like calculus in high school. I was in a higher level math class once though, and I didn't understand any of it, such as calculus (I also didn't have the previous foundation for that math, such as algebra since I slacked off really bad in my math classes the...

Programs How much maths knowledge is needed in order to do a physics degree?

Well, I hope that in the physics degree (which I'll probably start next year, if not I'll be doing a different second major) they will go over such mathematical concepts. It is an undergraduate degree after all, it doesn't make sense for you to know heaps about it before going into it. The...

Programs How much maths knowledge is needed in order to do a physics degree?

Maths B had calculus, but I only did math A which goes over more mid level maths. Even so, I have been exposed to a little calculus. I think I understand some of the basics like the derivative. I did maths B in grade 10 for about a few weeks, but I didn't understand it so I dropped out into...

Programs How much maths knowledge is needed in order to do a physics degree?

To summarize both: Math A (what I did in high school) was more mid level maths, with things like trigonometry, not calculus was really involved. Math B was more high level, with things like calculus.

Programs How much maths knowledge is needed in order to do a physics degree?

I'm doing a computer science degree this year, I might do a second major in physics next year, but I'm not sure if my maths is up to scratch. I never did much maths in school apart from basic things in math A, it says that I must have done maths B as a prerequisite for the physics major (which...

Genetics and intelligence, is your intelligence determined from birth?

It may very well be genetic. But to what extent, I'm not sure. What is in the child's upbringing would obviously be a factor. For example, if you surround a child with spaceship toys, it wouldn't be surprising they'd become more interested in space. I don't think it's much of a big deal if SPA's...

Genetics and intelligence, is your intelligence determined from birth?

I'm still not totally convinced that is the case that the differences in their ability to pick up things like math is largely genetic, and their in built intelligence. Could it be the case that some people find it hard to pick up math simply because they dislike it? If you like something...

Genetics and intelligence, is your intelligence determined from birth?

Mozart was being taught piano and composition from a young age (him parents also taught him), and same with Picasso, his first word was 'pencil' (but in a different language of coarse). Time and time again, I see artistic and musical talent gained through years of experience. I don't think...

Genetics and intelligence, is your intelligence determined from birth?

I wasn't making an overarching universal truth claim that most people do not enjoy math. But from my experience of being a student, no one really enjoyed math. It does not follow from someone having difficulty with a subject, that they don't like it, so I agree with you. There are many reasons...

Genetics and intelligence, is your intelligence determined from birth?

Have you considered that those children were exposed to high level mathematics at a young age? I'm pretty sure mathematics isn't something you're born with. You have to learn the relationships between x/y and the gradient line in calculus, no one is just born with the ability to do it. Einstein...

Genetics and intelligence, is your intelligence determined from birth?

This is a fairly taboo and controversial field. I've been hearing from many studies on intelligence, that it is highly heritable. Identical twins raised independent of each other have around a 0.75 relation in IQ tests. Siblings raised together have a .45 relation. What makes it worse is that...

Can a universe form from a true vacuum through quantum tunneling?

Yeah, I don't think I understand any of these terms (like 'harmonic oscillator', or eigenvalues). But are you saying a true vacuum state has potential infinite energy?
