Undergrad Finding conditional probability
Homework Statement There are w white balls and b black balls in a bowl. Randomly select a ball from the bowl and then return it to the bowl along with n additional balls of the same color. Another single ball is randomly selected from the bowl(now containing w+b+n balls) and it is black. Show...- mckallin

Finding Conditonal Probability
I think it means that at first the color of the ball is unknown, and given the condition that the second selected ball is black; thus, under this condition what the probability of the the first ball selected was white is. That is what I got. I agree with your meaning though, but anyway that is...- mckallin

Undergrad How can you determine if a set of given vectors can span a subspace in R^n?
thx. I am sorry that I have got a more problem right away. Could you help again? Do you know how to determine if a set of some given vectors in R^n can span R^n? regarded to this question: Determine if the following given vectors span R^4. {[1 3 -5 0] [-2 1 0 0] [0 2 1 -1] [1 -4 5 0]}. I...- mckallin

Undergrad How can you determine if a set of given vectors can span a subspace in R^n?
I see, thx. how about my first question, I would still like to know the answer to that: support that p is in M and M=span{v,w},that means p=av+bw, right? then, could either a or b be zero? Also, I have just seen a problem that asks for a spanning set for the zero subspace {0} of R^n. Then, I let...- mckallin

support that p is in M and M=span{v,w},that means p=av+bw, right? then, could either a or b be zero? regarded to this following problem: Is is possible that {[1 2 0]^T,[2 0 3]^T} can span the subspace U={[r s 0]^T / r and s in R}? I thought if s=2r and the scalar for [2 0 3]^T could...- mckallin

Undergrad Solve Integration: x^5cos(x^3) dx
I have tried to do it by part. If I make u=cos(x^3), dv=x^5 dx , the grade of x, which is in the cos(x^3) , won't be reduce. If I make u=x^5, dv=cos(x^3) dx , I can't solve the \int cos(x^3) dx. I have thought if there is some way to make it look nicer (like u=x^3 ),but I still... -

How Do You Integrate x^5 cos(x^3) with Substitution?
I have tried it, but it doesn't work, at least, for me. If I make u=cos(x^3), dv=x^5 dx , the grade of x, which is in the cos(x^3) , won't be reduce. If I make u=x^5, dv=cos(x^3) dx , I can't solve the \int cos(x^3) dx. Could you give me some more advice? thanks- mckallin
