What Factors Determine the Breaking Point of a Paddle Under Dynamic Forces?
@ Astronuc , yes the paddle is fixed to the piston with a bracket (yellow) and the weight of the paddle is negligible compared to the forces applied to it. What do you mean there doesn't seem to be a pivot point? @cstoos Shouldnt i consider the Force from the piston pushing the bracket...- meanswing

What Factors Determine the Breaking Point of a Paddle Under Dynamic Forces?
Hi Everyone. I am trying to find out when this paddle (in red) would break due to the force of the drag of the water and from the force of the pneumatic cylinder that is pushing it. I took intro to statics but as you can see with the figure the machine is not static. Can someone point me to the...- meanswing

Engineering How does the current through an inductor affect the RC circuit?
This is for question 7.53b) . I understand that the inductor acts like a short circuit but how is the current through the inductor affected? Wont the current source (6 A) split at the node before the 4 ohm resistor and before going into the 2 ohm resistor? Also to get the Equivalent Resistor...- meanswing

When do inductors act like a short circuit and when they dont?
sorry i forgot to say this situation is for DC source. So can you explain these two examples. The one with a resistor and the one without. Wouldnt the inductor act like a short circuit in both of them since the current through the circuit is constant? Is the current different from the current...- meanswing

When do inductors act like a short circuit and when they dont?
-My professor said that if i is constant through an inductor that V=0 through the formula V=L(dv/dt) . So if an inductor is in series with a voltage source it will act like a short circuit. But if the inductor is in series with a resistor and the voltage source the inductor will not act like a...- meanswing

Solving the Yo-yo Problem: Final Velocity Calculation
Homework Statement A yo-yo has mass of 400 kg and radius of 1.5m. Its axle of rotation has a radius of 0.1m. Its string is attached to a crane. What is its final velocity after it is released. mass (m)=400 kg Radius (R)= 1.5 m axle of yo-yo (r)= 0.1 m...- meanswing
