I have taken courses in math up to calculus 2, after which my math ambitions came to a quick hault. I would like to pick it back up and attempt to casually learn some math on my free time. So I would like to know the sequence/order of math concepts that someone would normally take at a given...
In need of a little help/guidance.
I have an enormous passion for physics. I took an introductory physics course my 1st semester at a community college, I enjoyed it so much I decided to start my math all over so I could build a good foundation. I started with intermediate algebra, then trig...
Homework Statement
Find the length of the curve y=x^3 using P(1,1) as the starting point
Homework Equations
f(x) = \int_{a}^{x} {\sqrt 1 + {f'(t)}^2}
The Attempt at a Solution
So far all I've done is found my y' and plugged it in, giving me 1+9t^4 inside the square...
Homework Statement
Find the volume of the solid obtained by rotating the region bounded by the given curves about the specified line.
y=x^2
x=y^2
about x= -1
Homework Equations
Volume= Integral of A(y) dy where A(y)= (pi)(r)^2
The Attempt at a Solution
My question is...
Im glad there are people that have been in the same boat as me. I feel like sometimes I am pursuing physics strictly because its the most challenging subject I could find, and as you said above, just to prove that I can.
But again, like I said before, I am very talented in many other areas...
Its really coming down outside so I am stuck inside with my mind roaming. I was curious about the physics behind a car hydroplaning. It seems to be just a loss of friction between the tires and the road...but mabe there is more to it? If anyone is up for discussion maybe you can help explain...
I would have to say I don't apply myself completely. Its not that I am terrible at mathematics/physics, its that I excel naturally at so many other subjects, but for some reason I am attracted so much to the one subject I am not naturally gifted in (physics). I am just really confused on what to...
Recently I have been strongly reconsidering pursuing a degree in Physics. I absolutely love the subject, but i think my problem is that I love to learn physics, but I do not love to do physics out of necessity. I feel that while I enjoy sitting in class listening to lectures, when the time comes...

A 6kg disk with radius 0.3m initially not spinning. String is wrapped around disk, you pull with constant force of 25N through a distance of 0.6m. What is its angular speed.
Homework Equations
Krotational=1/2 I w2
The Attempt at a Solution
I can't seem to...
Homework Statement
Uniform density rod with mass 1.2 kg, length 0.7m rotates around an axis perpendicular to the rod, with angular speed 50 rad/sec. its center moves with a speed of 8m/s.
What is the rotational kinetic energy?
Homework Equations
K= 1/2 I * V^2 (V is angular speed...
Here is the code i wrote up, not sure how accurate (if at all) it is. Planet[0] is the sun and planet[1] is mercury. So I just used G(m1*m2)/d^2 nine different times for each planet, then did that for all other 7 planets including the sun. Kind of tedious, but all the planets seem to orbit...
Looks like I will have to play around with it a bit.
Yea had I used my time more wisely I would definitely enjoy writing the program much more, but i was thinking on adding an asteroid or two on a collision course for earth. Would be fun to see how the other planets pull on the asteroids.
It seems that i got it so far. thanks for your help. I am trying to add the moon, but having trouble finding the moons velocity relative to the sun. I believe its about 1050 m/s relative to the earth, and the Earth's speed is about 29000 m/s relative to the sun. Any help?
