Probability involving a three card hand.
Thanks for the replies, they managed to convince my friend. I think he was trying to do it a different way with the tools he knew (using 52 choose 3), but couldn't work it out to his satisfaction. I wish I knew how to represent it in Mathematica, since there is a sense in the back of my mind...- Monstrous Math

Multivitamins a waste of money?
I posted these studies in response to someone saying there was NO RESEARCH. How is that an oops? I posted research. I never made the point that all of this research supported taking multivitamins. You assumed something I never said. What ever happened to the civility in the site's codes...- Monstrous Math

Confidence intervals in psychological tests
IQ is an ambiguous term, so it seems doubtful that there is a "true" IQ that is always the same for that person. If the person is very very tired, for example, it can skew the results. Or if the person is on a drug. Or in love. Or whatever. In any case, even if you did know the true IQ, you...- Monstrous Math

How music and personality are linked?
I think it's not unreasonable to say that, since everyone has different tastes in music, there must be some differentiable variables within you that are correlated with your taste in music. The problem is that people try to make vast oversimplifications like listening to Metallica means you...- Monstrous Math

Multivitamins a waste of money?
All this talk of vitamin D reminds me of this interesting photo from national geographic that was on their "Photo of the Day" a while back: http://photography.nationalgeographic.com/photography/photo-of-the-day/ultraviolet-bath-mcnally-pod/ I guess in the far North of Russia where it's night...- Monstrous Math

Need good argument for why vaccinations are a good thing.
I live in California and ten families killed their children last year by not vaccinating them against whooping cough: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/10/01/anti-vaccine-parents-caused-californias-lethal-whooping-cough-epidemic/ About 9,000 kids got the disease (with more to come) and it...- Monstrous Math

Other Becoming an Engineer: Considerations and Personal Experiences
@ sushifiend, here's a quote from the first post of the "So you want to be a physicist" thread that seemed relevant: "The preparation one makes while still in high school before proceeding to college can be important. The most important of which, in my opinion, is one’s mastery of basic...- Monstrous Math

Probability involving a three card hand.
Ha! First post! Hope you guys can help me. It's not really a homework problem, but it's close enough. Homework Statement What is the probability of drawing a king, a red card, and a jack from a fair deck of 52 cards, in that order, without replacement? The Attempt at a Solution...- Monstrous Math
