High School What is the largest number of consecutive repeating digits in pi?

As far as I can tell from googling, pi has been calculated to over 3 trillion decimal places. I'm curious whether a string of 100 2's has been found. It has to happen, right? As I understand it, we should be able to find a string of 3 trillion consecutive 2's. Am I wrong in my thinking?

High School Why does the 'Number 9 Phenomenon' always work in integer systems?

So it's the system of mathematics that we're using? Not a naturally occurring anomaly?

High School Why does the 'Number 9 Phenomenon' always work in integer systems?

I have seen this number "trick" throughout the years and have never been able to figure out the mechanism. I'm sure most of you are familiar with it, and probably have a simple solution. Here it is for those who are not aware: take any number greater than 9 add up all of the digits of...

Undergrad The Possibility of "Pure" Planets

Thanks for not answering my question. Regardless of whether water is an element or not, the question remains the same. Is it possible for a planet to be purely anything? I'm sure it is very rare, if not almost impossible, but have we discovered planets that are predominantly one...

Undergrad The Possibility of "Pure" Planets

"Pure" planets? What is the likelihood of a planet being almost entirely one element? Is it possible to have a planet that is purely water?

    What makes gasoline/alcohol so volatile?

I have always been amazed at how well gasoline and highly purified alcohols are at cleaning things. It almost seems as if they are microscopic organisms that eat the filth away. I even remember as a kid, putting gasoline in a styrofoam cup, only to see it dissolve away. What is this mechanism?

Question about the forming of heavy elements.

I know that I'm told that the heaviest elements can only be created in massive supernovae. Is this just theory, or have we created, in labs, lighter elements in scaled down collisions/explosions?

How would i go about becoming a scientist?

It all depends on what specific scientific field you'd like to enter. Advanced math classes now will help with all of them. Any ideas of what specific field you'd be interested in?

Possible misenterpretations of the known universe

Can we really account for most stars gravitational influence? By gravitational influence, I'm assuming that you mean on other stars in their galaxies. Wouldn't this be harder to gauge the farther away you get?

Possible misenterpretations of the known universe

After observing an icicle the other day, I came to the conclusion that perhaps some of the "stars" that we see in space could just be reflections. Is it possible that we are seeing light passed through a mostly ice object and accounting it for a dimmer star? This seems most plausible at...
