Programs Physics or Engineering undergraduate major: Interest Fluid Dynamics
Take physics. My graduate studies are in geophysical fluid dynamics ( mantle flow), and my undergrad was physics. My best suggestion is take as much Physics and computer science as humanly possible, including classes in supercomputing and C++. Most geophysical fluid dynamics often revolve...- NeoZeon

Regular calculus vs calculus engineering?
Calculus doesn't really differentiate itself until you get into advanced treatments of Calculus, such as Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, and Calculus of Variations. Also, there might be a course called Advanced Calculus, which is basically Calculus 3 on steroids. They also call that course...- NeoZeon

Master in Physics vs. Bachelors in Engineering?
Hello all, I'm guessing this question has been answered before but I couldn't find it for some reason. Anyway, my interests are in Geodynamics, and I gota 3.08 GPA in physics for my undergrad and Now a 3.8 GPA for my masters in geology. I am wondering if this will offset my undergrad gpa and...- NeoZeon

Use change in variables and iterated integrals theorm to deduce Pappus
1. Homework Statement [/b] this problem is on page 267 of Advanced calculus of several variables by Edwards, I just can't seem to get a handle on it: Let aA be a contented set in the right half of the xz plane ,x>0. Define $$\hat{x}$$, the x-coordinates of the centroid of A, by...- NeoZeon

Best Path for Ocean Engineering: ME, EE, or Physics?
THis past summer I did an REU with an Oceanographer, he started as a ME if that helps. I think as long as you take E&M, Fluid Mechanics, Stat Therm physics, and PDE's you should be ok.- NeoZeon

Finding REUs for Summer 2012? [Undergraduate Research Help]
Well... I go to a small liberal arts school with active professors ( they are propionate in their fields) so while the choice of research isn't extensive (planetary science, atmospheric physics, lases are about it) pretty much everyone at my school starts from freshman year if they want to...- NeoZeon

Finding REUs for Summer 2012? [Undergraduate Research Help]
Look at Columbia's LDEO program... i just finished it. It was a lot of fun. I didn't have a great GPA but I had a lot of research experience.- NeoZeon

Computer Science REU: Admissions & Acceptance Rates
The REU I am in right now, an Earth science one, had 485 applicants for 10 or so spots (there are 30 ish interns but 20 came from the original school and were not included in the same applicant field). Suffice to say that REU's are super competitive, and they don't necessarily accept the best...- NeoZeon
