High School Is the Electron the Smallest Stable Particle?
By "smallest" I mean non-zero rest mass. By "stable" I mean it can exist independently of other subatomic particles for an extended period of time.- nottay

Graduate Frame dragging and absolute rotation
The quote is from Ernst Mach. So if the centrifugal force isn't caused by a body rotating in reference to the matter around it then what determines the absolute rotation? I find it hard to believe that there is simply a preferred reference point when it comes to rotation.- nottay

Graduate Frame dragging and absolute rotation
I know rotation can be detected by a number of different tests but doesn't relativity imply that there shouldn't be such a thing as absolute rotation if all frames of reference are equal? I'm referring to Mach's principle and the idea that a rotating body experiences centrifugal force due to...- nottay

Graduate Frame dragging and absolute rotation
I'm trying to wrap my head around how rotational frame dragging affects the centrifugal force of a massive, rotating body and was hoping someone could explain this concept to me better. If I am confused on any of the points below please let me know. It is my understanding that there is no...- nottay

Graduate Redshift/Blueshift of Gravity Waves Around a Black Hole
First time poster and curious about how the shifting of gravity waves affects the curvature of space-time for observers in the vicinity of a black hole's event horizon. I'm making some assumptions based on my own research on the topic. Assumptions: 1. Gravity waves are traveling...- nottay
