Undergrad Can we apply non-linear smoothing to a linear looking like data ?
My doubt is that whether we can apply non-linear smoothing to a almost linear data ( without one or 2 discontinuity) I have attached the pic in which the red data is the smoothed one. Blue is the original one. I multiplied each point with an increasing like 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4...so on...- paawansharmas

Any other incidents/accidents like this ?
Hello please share information about any accidents/incidents related to the misreadings/malfunctioning/wrong interpretation of ex-core detectors ( for any reasons) I searched and found one incident of Calvert-Cliff Nuclear power plant in 1988. Problems associated with ex-core detectors ?
"why invent new troubles? " We are living in a world which is more uncertain than ever before (positively). Most of the reactors are near large water bodies, either sea or river. For those near sea: biggest threat is Tsunami (Earthquake + Flood + and possibly fire). How can we deny water...- paawansharmas

Problems associated with ex-core detectors ?
ok. But, increased thermal neutrons(in case of flooding) means the detector will exhaust rapidly. And the performance would degrade soon. That too, if the reactor power is very high, means higher no. of neutrons being thermalized. What about the thermal(heat) limitations of these detectors ? I...- paawansharmas

Problems associated with ex-core detectors ?
Thanks all for enlightment on the topic. The main reason for which this question was raised is: if the ex-core ( which happens to monitor reactor power under normal operation in a fast reactor) is flooded in case of water and surrounded by water, then my question is , the no. of neutrons...- paawansharmas

Problems associated with ex-core detectors ?
Hi all What are the problems associated with ex-core detectors in general? Particularly for fast reactors. Also, why they are needed ( why in-core is insufficient) ? Thanks.- paawansharmas

Is there any USB device for simulating
thanks all. actually the idea came because of https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?p=3949407#post3949407 So I thought I could pre-generate a fixed length data either in Scilab or Matlab, and produce the analog signal accordingly. I also saw ideas using PC/laptop sound card, but that...- paawansharmas

What is measured in a fast reactor for power calculation : fast neutron flux or
thank you for the reply. So it can be fairly assumed that in case of a tsunami for eg. , and considering the full integrity of the reactor structure, if water floods to the ex-core detector, there would be not much problem. But what if there is a severe accident like in earthquake ( followed...- paawansharmas
