High School The path of our planetary bodies
we are not at one of the foci but our(solar system's) CM is...the mass distribution of the solar system is not uniform at one instant of time and its such that the CM lies at one of the foci of an ellipse...for example consider that you put different masses of balls in a bag ..the bag will tilt...- panthera

Graduate Magnet is (kind-of) incredible
well i didn't look only at your second post...i avoid reading long posts  anyway it's not so that some energy needs to be provided continuously..an event started at -infinity will not stop unless some external force is there to cease it's motion as mentioned by the previous poster...- panthera

Can a radar detect a plastic object?
Do you think the skin depth plays any role? skin depth of an insulator is infinite... however, if we go to molecular level, it depends on the frequency of vibration of the atoms;if that's more than the signal freq then it's detected else the signal gets absorbed...don't you think so...- panthera

Graduate Magnet is (kind-of) incredible
you are correct in saying that the field is due to the magnetic moment associated with the spinning electron. due to its spin, it behaves as a dipole. magnetic field does not do any work when the charge moves parallel to the magnetc field else it does... but what you are saying that you would...- panthera

High School The path of our planetary bodies
Another reason could be that the centre of mass of the solar system( sun + 9 planets) lies at one of the foci of an ellipse to maintain the equillibrium or in other words the whole mass of the solar system is distributed in such a manner that the C.M has to lie at one of the foci of an ellipse...- panthera

Can a radar detect a plastic object?
can a radar detect a plastic object? could the uhf and microwave signals be reflected by the target if it's made of plastic material? please give justifications  thanks.- panthera

Calculating Decay Distance and Energy of Unstable Particle: A Physics Problem
thanks for the solution  ...well i am not finding any sign error in my equation; its by solving 4 vectors... only i have multiplied the original eqn with -1 to write it in simplified way[i have not written all the steps here]...your equations are correct but i think we have a sign...- panthera

Calculating Decay Distance and Energy of Unstable Particle: A Physics Problem
four vectors---- Px =( Px, jEx) P μ =(Pμ ,jEμ) P ν =( P ν , jE ν) [I tried to put arrow head but couldn't, its getting displaced] Now, P ν = Px - P μ Squaring we get P ν 2 = (Px - P μ) 2 =>mx2 + mμ2 – 2Ex E μ + 2Px P μ cos θ = 0, θ =...- panthera

Calculating Decay Distance and Energy of Unstable Particle: A Physics Problem
thanks...yes i have found a) in the same way...and have got the ans 3m... for 2nd one i am using four vectors...i always face difficulty in solving these problems using other methods...its almost solved but i have not yet put the values to get the ans...- panthera

Calculating Decay Distance and Energy of Unstable Particle: A Physics Problem
hi, I have a problem and I am trying it out and would like to have suggestions as well. I would post the solution after I finish and will have opinions  .Meanwhile I would like others to try this...I shall be obliged to get any ans... An unstable particle of rest energy...- panthera

Undergrad Speed of light is a universal constant
do you know some stars have shown a blue shift instead of red shift? and scientists always refute this fact..i had once attended a lecture of jayant narlikar in IUCAA and he was much convincing and it did strengthen my perspective. -

Can music really be transmitted faster than light?
i agree what you are saying ...i only posted it as i thought may be the author has missed some point. it is not unusual to hear such comments in a discussion.isn't it?
