How Does a Lumin/Plasma Disc Work?

Hello, I am familiar with how a plasma globe works, and there are plenty of resources describing them, but I'm not 100% sure how a plasma disc works. If anyone knows, I'd love to have some insight on this subject. Regards,

What simple machine is a cam/eccentric?

Now I know that levers, wheels, screws, inclined planes, wedges, and pulleys (which I believe are actually levers in disguise), are the classical simple machines from way back when. Although I can classify things into these categories, I'm having trouble determining which of them a cam/eccentric...

Boiling water w/ a car battery

Thank you all for your help, this gives me a good idea of the practicality of my project. The reason I'm doing electric > thermal > mechanical, instead of electric > mechanical, is because I want to build a steam engine. Simply put.

Boiling water w/ a car battery

Well, my definition of practical would look something like so: A very small boat capable of using a paddle wheel/prop to go at maybe 3-5 km/h. The only thing I want to replace is bringing solid fuels, so I'm wondering how practical it would be to use a battery instead.

Boiling water w/ a car battery

Here is an extremely crude (to say the least) MS Paint drawing of how all the parts are to connect.

Boiling water w/ a car battery

So... I am looking to basically convert electric energy to thermal, then mechanical energy. I am wondering how practical it would be to use a rechargeable car battery (12V, and 40Ah) to boil water into steam for a steam engine. It does not matter how long it would take, simply if it is...

How can I discuss steam engine physics on PF effectively?

Hello to the community, I am have very little education in physics, but I am able to decipher things I may not understand, and I have created this account with the intent of answering some of my questions relating to the physics of steam engines. Thanks, -PenguinCo.
