Schools Computational Fluid Dynamics in Physics Graduate School
Ah! I know what I'm going to spend my weekend looking at =) thanks. Thanks Dr.D! Well, I do come from a place where I was originally worried of having almost exactly zero job prospects. I understand that job prospects will look better coming from a ME PhD, but right now I'm still trying to...- PhysicsWiz4

Schools Computational Fluid Dynamics in Physics Graduate School
Dr. D, thank you for elaborating on your reply. Would you have any additional interest if they came from an applied mathematics PhD? Or would you strictly prefer an engineering PhD? And what chance would a physics/math double major who's taken 0 engineering classes have at getting into a good...- PhysicsWiz4

Schools Computational Fluid Dynamics in Physics Graduate School
Dr. D, I want to go to physics grad school because I want to try my hand at academia - or would I not get CFD experience there? Cool! I'm interested in astro - do you know which subfield I should be looking at if I want extensive experience with simulation/theory? From the physics side I'm...- PhysicsWiz4

I want to go to physics grad school, but I also want to be ready to go to into CFD for industry if academia doesn't pan out - what area of physics would prepare me best for that?- PhysicsWiz4

Schools Senior Year Courses for Graduate School
jbrussel93 - Thanks for the vote of confidence! I do hope that that is the case. radium - Thanks and congrats! I do hope to get a letter of rec from the general relativity professor as I've had him in the past and I've interacted with him before (I hope he remembers me!) Good luck!- PhysicsWiz4

Schools Senior Year Courses for Graduate School
Thanks! Those two are the most prereq heavy, but I am most interested in them! I will definitely consider this option as it seems that it will be most helpful in getting started with research quickly come graduate school.- PhysicsWiz4

Schools Senior Year Courses for Graduate School
Hi PF, asking for course advice again. Currently I am finishing up undergraduate level series in: Abstract Algebra Real Analysis Particle Physics Topology. Next fall I will be registering for: Stat Mech/Thermodynamics (required for physics majors) Statistics and Probability (required for math...- PhysicsWiz4

Schools What Courses Should I Take for Graduate School in Theoretical Physics?
Thanks for the reply! I see that I probably should not let advanced mathematics courses take up a year of slots if I will only be looking at portions of it anyway if I choose to do theoretical physics. Indeed I have taught myself some mathematics before and I should be mature enough to at least...- PhysicsWiz4

Schools What Courses Should I Take for Graduate School in Theoretical Physics?
Hi everyone, asking for course advice again. Some background: I am on a quarter system, this coming winter quarter I am registered for: General relativity Elementary Particle Physics (I) Real Analysis (I) Modern Algebra (II) I'm currently a 3rd year physics major finishing up 4th year courses...- PhysicsWiz4

Graduate Why quantum effects disappear at the classical level
It might have to do with why we don't see Schrödinger's cat ever and we don't encounter wave collapse or entanglement in classical life, but I'm uncertain.- PhysicsWiz4

How important is a strong foundation?
I transferred credits and skipped ahead to calc 3 (physics department doesn't permit jumping ahead though, even with a 5 on C). I did well in all those classes. That being said, your preparation *does* matter. The AP BC test was a joke compared to what we were covering in the class -had I only...- PhysicsWiz4

Get my PhD early or stay and publish as much as possible?
If you stay an average amount, it will be more impressive if you publish more than average in my opinion. It's definitely impressive to people outside of academia to finish a PhD in 3 years or so, but what really speaks to who are going to be your superiors/peers is your potential to contribute...- PhysicsWiz4

Schools Questions about qualifications for theoretical physics for college
Hey! I wouldn't be too worried about mathematical skill at your age. If you grasp things like you say you do, it'll eventually pay off. It wasn't until my senior year of high school when I started getting A's in math, even higher than the ones who have always gotten A's. My grasp helped me...- PhysicsWiz4

Schools Can I Take Math and CS Courses in Physics Graduate School?
How do courses work in graduate school? I'm in undergrad right now and even though I am a physics major, I am mostly free to take whatever class I want to. However, I know in graduate school one is supposed to be becoming more specialized so how does taking non-physics classes work in graduate...- PhysicsWiz4
