Ah, that's some good advice, chiro. I haven't taken any yet, but I will eventually be taking at least a few courses in which R or MATLAB will be used.
Mepris, I'll definitely consider learning Python using OCW. Thanks for the link!
How important is it for math majors to have experience with programming? I'm able to take only one more first-year course and I'm considering taking an introductory course on programming (using Python). Specifically I'm interested in pure mathematics and I'd eventually like to go to grad school...
Hmm, I've actually considered just doing a double major in philosophy and math but at my school the degree in philosophy and math is a B.A. and is slightly more focused on philosophy. But I'm going to take a few more courses in philosophy in order to get a minor in it. I might even have enough...
Ah, to be honest I'm not exactly sure what my plan is. I would definitely like to do more schooling after undergrad; professional school (medicine and pharmacy in particular) has always been my main option. I've taken most of the required courses for both of those so they're always an option...
Well, that's reassuring. Thanks for the advice! I'd say I definitely am lacking a lot of mathematical maturity, especially considering that this is the first time I've taken two math courses in one term (which is something I'm definitely not used to at this point). I guess it'll all get better...
I do enjoy thinking about it, but sometimes I feel as if I think too much about trivial problems that shouldn't be giving me trouble. It's hard to describe, really. :\ Maybe I'm just afraid that I'm not intelligent enough or something like that.
Sorry about that. Posted it prematurely. I guess I'll finish the rest of my explanation in this post.
I want to switch because I find it a lot more fascinating than any other subject I've considered studying. I've really always been interested in math but I never considered majoring in it...
First time posting here. However, this question has been on my mind for a while.
I'm currently a second year philosophy major, but a few months ago (after doing some research and some self-studying) I realized that I would rather be studying math. I'm currently taking Calculus II and Linear...
