Undergrad Confusion about the speed of light
So everyone knows the speed of light is a universal constant. However in many phenomena involving light it is useful to think that light is 'slowing down' like light travels slower in glass/ water then it does in a vacuum. How can this be if it is a universal constant? -

Escape Boredom with Science: What Are Some Intriguing Questions to Ponder?
Some good suggestions here but thought about most of them already :p. For the first example, We only have convergence for all |x|<1 and not equal to 0 right?- prane

Escape Boredom with Science: What Are Some Intriguing Questions to Ponder?
I have a very boring summer job to earn some money and often find myself passing the time with thoughts of science (mainly physics) and maths. I would really appreciated it if you shared with me some cool questions/topics to think about to help me escape the boredom of putting shopping...- prane

Undergrad Simple Geometric Proof: Inscribed Triangle in a Circle of Diameter d
Consider a circle of diameter d. Inscribe a triangle within the circle so that the triangle has hypotenuse d. Prove that this triangle is always right angled. If we define the 3 points on the circumference of the circle that define the triangle as A B and C such that |AC| = d then we...- prane

Undergrad How Does Google Work? Get Answers Here
I've heard before that the process involves determining the eigenvalues of a system of a equation in the form of a matrix but I know very little about what actually goes on and I was hoping somebody could enlighten me.- prane

High School Difference between heat and temperature
I know there is a difference between heat and temperature as once I was told what it is. I remember it being very subtle and that's probably why I cannot remember the details anymore. Would anybody be so kind as to refresh my memory?- prane

Undergrad Elementary problems concerning electromagnetic spectrum
So you're saying all EM radiation can be thought of as radiowaves? The energies of the waves are then responsible for the different observable effects due to the wavelength being of a size comparable to the thing it is interacting with. Are you also saying that the particle responsible for this...- prane

Undergrad Elementary problems concerning electromagnetic spectrum
All electromangtic radiation comes under one continuous spectrum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Electromagnetic-Spectrum.png Different wavelengths of this radiation has different properties which is very evident in real life. However the whole concept remains extremely mysterious to...- prane

Music Music Production: Enjoying the Creative Process
that's a shame you never get into it. It is hugely expensive but it's, in my opinion, one of the most rewarding past times out there- prane

Graduate The space between a unit 'sphere' in n dimensions within an n-dimensional cube
My question though is, how do we know that this pattern continues for n greater than 3? If it's just defined to be that then I can kind of see why but is there any 'proof'? This result surely cannot be proven by induction?- prane

Graduate The space between a unit 'sphere' in n dimensions within an n-dimensional cube
Yeh the result can be proven by Pythagorus in 2 and 3 dimensions but what about n?- prane
