Slumdog Millioraire - How close is it to
Thank you. Let me enlighten y'all and pardon the partial racism here. The caste system was built thousands of years ago to divide up the tasks among groups of people. For example some people were merchants, some were warriors, some where priests, and some tended to cremations and funerals...- protonchain

Deriving Steady-State Heat Conduction Equation in a Sphere
I have seen the above, but the problem is that because this is spherical, we need to start from the beginning and render the equation proper. At least that's how the prof wants to see it on the homework. A HUGE thank you to jdwood for that massively helpful hint. I just set your equation to...- protonchain

Deriving Steady-State Heat Conduction Equation in a Sphere
Sorry about the late response guys, I got held up at work. So I followed your instructions jdwood, and I see how you had come up with the equation that you came up with. This is how far I've gotten. 4\pi\left((r^2+\delta r^2)\left(-k\frac{dT}{dr}+\delta r...- protonchain

Deriving Steady-State Heat Conduction Equation in a Sphere
Homework Statement Show that the equation governing the stead-state radial conduction of heat in a sphere or spherical shell with volumetric heat production is given by \frac{k}{r^2}\frac{d}{dr}(r^2\frac{dT}{dr})+\rho H = 0 where k is thermal conductivity, H is the heat production per unit...- protonchain

Is My Sony Walkman MP3 Player Defective?
^ This. If you have the dough, get an ipod. Specifically the iPod Touch. You won't regret the purchase. I know that seems like a very rude thing to say, but I'm just offering my opinion on a great product that has satisfied me. If nothing, get an older model ipod nano. I had one...- protonchain

Kicked Out - Saying Goodbye with Sadness
Binz, I'm sorry to say this, but from what you were telling us on PF chat regarding your mom's decorum, it seems like a blessing in disguise. You should be glad, you're now free and you won't be called a moron or an idiot for trivial matters.- protonchain

How do we know for sure that technology will continue to advance?
Things will keep improving because we don't know what's coming next. No one ever knew about plasmas and LCD TVs in the 50s, and look at the times now. It's a really weak example I know, but all it takes is one nerd out there to discover something and then to publish it after fighting for grant...- protonchain

Can YOU Beat My Record for Memorizing Digits of Pi?
I'll be honest. In 8th grade, for extra credit in my math class and to get me from a B+ to an A-, I memorized my teachers wall of Pi, which was upto the 75th digit. Now, 10 years later, I can't remember when my work meetings and my other appointments are, but I can still remember pi. I don't...- protonchain
