Hi Forum,
Hopefully someone can help out with a reference here or point me in the right direction!
Say you have 3 geophysical datasets: aeromag, Bouguer gravity and pseudo-gravity (as derived from the aeromag). I understand how the pseudo-gravity is derived, but what extra benefit do you...
Well lesson has clearly been learned. I just figured that although we worked on different projects, that since it all technically falls under the one overall research project, that there might be some recourse. I'd also assumed since we were all working on the same overall project that I...
Well this guy hasn't fabricated the data. He's basically taken the problem I was working on, and reproduced the results entirely on his own. The issue here is that he KNEW what the problem I was working on was, he KNEW what methodology I'd used. But he's NOT fabricated (stolen) the results as...
No
No idea.
No this researcher is certainly not the head of the group or the facility and is definitely not the PI on the research project. He is an investigator on another project totally unrelated to what I'm working on. So I can't rightly see how he'd have any just claim...
The problem is, that he couldn't reference my work, as I've not actually presented it at a conference or published it anywhere yet. The manuscript is still in prep. So I think I would probably have a hard time arguing plagarism, despite the fact that's essentially what it is. This guy is a...
I’ve just this weekend stumbled onto a major issue in my PhD. Annoyingly enough, only 2 months out from my projected submission date. I’m after advice from anybody on the forums who might be a senior academic/researcher who’s maybe come across something similar in the past.
The background...
Heh. Fractals in geology...My area of expertise ;)
I can definitely vouch for the fact that minute changes to the accuracy of some input numbers can drastically change outputs! Caused me endless pain trying to figure out why my results were completely obscure. All is well now thankfully :)
Contact the academic advisor of the departments you're interested in. Every Australian uni dept. has one. And while it is currently winter break, you'll find that since marks are being released either this week or next week, that academic advisors SHOULD be around to help students sort out...
Looks like a possible Quartz Monzonite to me. Seems to be a fair bit of k-feldspar and lacking in Qtz. That could just be the lighting in the photo however.
Yes, there is HECS for tuition, but newsflash, you still have to pay that back! I racked up $32000 worth of tuition debt in 4 years for undergrad. And have paid off all but about $2k, which will be paid by the time I finish my PhD in September. This thread was about whether it was possible to...
Depends. International students pay about Au$18000 a year in tuition. Domestic students pay anwhere between $2000-$10000 a year in tuition. That's just for undergraduate. Graduate school is $18000 a year regardless of you being an international/domestic student.
There is NOTHING available...
Therein lies the cultural difference between the US and Australia. In Australia it's more common than not for kids to leave home once they finish high school, be it their own choice, or being kicked out by their parents. I know almost nobody who stayed living at home after high school.
Here...
Wow! The expectations of some people in this thread amazes me! Possibly it's a cultural difference between the US and Australia, but my parents more or less kicked me out of home as soon as I finished grade 12 (I was 18). Their opinion was that after compulsory education was finished, it was...
All universities in Australia have the ability to get stuff from other university/govt libraries on inter-library loan. It's not free, but for postgrads and postdocs etc. the cost should be covered by your department. This allows you to get obscure/old journal articles with relative ease...
