Horizontal Projectiles. Degree or Radian mode in calculator?
Homework Statement It's a worksheet with questions like : A pelican flying along a horizontal path drops a fish from a height of 5.4 m. The fish travels 8.0 m horizontally before it hits the water below. What is the pelican's initial speed? Homework EquationsThe Attempt at a Solution [/B] So...- Rasofia

Acceleration question -- Deceleration of a baseball being caught by a player
1. A baseball is traveling at +18 m/s and is caught by a player. The ball is brought to rest in 0.5 s. What is the acceleration of the ball?Homework Equations Maybe vf=vi+ at ?The Attempt at a Solution This is under a Horizontal Projectiles worksheet by the way...I'm not sure what to do on this...- Rasofia

Boat Positioning: Lorraine and Jeff's Displacement in Race - Homework Question
I used tangent inverse (y/x) and got around 31 degrees so maybe that's it? I don't really know if that would be the right equation for this though.- Rasofia

Boat Positioning: Lorraine and Jeff's Displacement in Race - Homework Question
Homework Statement Lorraine steered her boat out of the harbor, heading east. She traveled 500 m to one buoy and then turned north and headed 300 m to another buoy. Jeff also left the harbor from the same point, and traveled 300 m [N] to a buoy, and then went 500 m [E]. a) What is the position...- Rasofia

DISPLACEMENT-TIME graphs question
1. It's a displacement time graph with coordinates (0,0), (3,-3),(5,-3), (9,5) The lines are all linear. The question first asks 'Calculate the velocity for each section 0-3s, 3-5s,5-9s. I know how to do that part (it's -1m/s, 0m/s, and 2m/s). But the other part of the question asks: What...- Rasofia

Average speed? -- Homework problem
Thank you for the time and response! And yes, that's what I would've thought if I were your brother. To just add them and divide by two, because that to me would make sense...but now I see, really, that's not the case- Rasofia

Average speed? -- Homework problem
Hmm...I read your post and it made sense for just a second lol..but then whatever logic burst into my head burst right out. The 100 and the 1 equaling the 2 is what's confusing me. Could you maybe explain it in the context of the question? (Not if it's too much) edit: I just noticed you pretty...- Rasofia

Average speed? -- Homework problem
But the thing I'm trying to understand is how is it possible that your average speed is 1.98 when for one mile your speed was 100 miles per hour and for the next mile it was 1mph ...how does that logically make sense?? How can your AVERAGE speed be barely 2?- Rasofia

Average speed? -- Homework problem
Ok let me just type the question and get to the real question I have. If you traveled one mile at a speed of 100 miles per hour and another mile at a speed of 1 mile per hour, your average speed would not be (100 mph+ 1 mph)/2 or 50.5 mph. What would be your average speed? (Hint:what is the...- Rasofia
