Programs Will doing an Engineering degree cut me off from the physics world?

I must agree with maverick that that would not be so tough and i guess it differs from country to country and university to university, but we had E&M, stat mech, classical mechanics as part of our engineering degree, so it would just be QM and advanced lab, plus one or two other courses which...

Other Becoming an Engineer: Considerations and Personal Experiences

llauren, if you don't like memorizing, i would say that you will like engineering, since it is more about understanding a certain concept and applying it to different problems/situations, than just memorizing thousands a facts (i hate that). One of our lectures said that you still have to...

Programs Will doing an Engineering degree cut me off from the physics world?

I don't know where you guys did engineering, but that is not my experience of engineering at all... We do exactly the same maths and physics as the pure maths and physics guys, so I would just have to take an extra final year course in physics to get a pure physics degree... So...

The difference between European and US programs

This is an interesting discussion, since it is something I've always wondered about, but more in the sense of how our academic system in South Africa compares to the likes of the US and UK academic systems and looks like at least we seem to be more or less on par with both concerning the amount...

    Image/video processing project ideas?

Thanks for the replies so far guys, but can you perhaps also give possible applications of the concepts that I might look into

Which is the most (and least) math heavy of the engineering fields?

Well, I know at my university all the engineering disciplines that they offer (elec, mech, civil) do first and second year calc and linear algebra from the maths department (not some watered down "for engineers only" version) and then the elec guys go on and do third year complex analysis and...

Courses Balancing College and Career Goals: Is My Sophomore Schedule Unrealistic?

I say go for it  Life becomes uninteresting if you don't challenge yourself and you seem like you can handle it  Plus if you see it does gets too much, you can always try to cut down on some activities... I have a friend that did about the same sort and amount of activities...

Which is the most (and least) math heavy of the engineering fields?

Well, I know I'll probably step on a lot of toes by saying this, but a very wise and smart man, Mr. Albert Einstein, once said e=mc^2 and I believe that is true for the engineering courses namely that electrical=mechanical*(civil^2) especially when it comes to maths and physics in the courses...

    Image/video processing project ideas?

Ok, so I'm about to start my final year project for engineering at university and I'm planning to do it in image/video processing, so does anyone perhaps have an interesting project idea (I have a few of my own, but would like to hear what other like minded people have to say)

Finding the Force Vector from Kinetic Energy: A Vector Analysis Approach

Thanks for the link lowlypion, but I can't seem to see how that would help me to get from the kinetic energy to the force or vice versa, since the kinetic energy is not a vector and that is what seems to mess up the whole thing for me (just tell me if it's something stupid I'm not seeing)

Thanks for trying to help xavior, but I think my problem gets a bit more trickier than that...
