Is infrared rays belonging to solar energy?

clouds Don't forget the increased cloud formations, which are a strong reflector of IR. Less of the radiated heat from the surfce is able to get back out, heating up the atmosphere. To pull out the important detail from Andre, CO2 absorbes around 10.6um (Ozone), which is in the middle of...

What Properties Make Earth Habitable for Life?

There must be a fundamental property of the Earth that allowed/encouraged life to deveop. Identifying these will help identify other planets that also could contain life. Sorry if this is a repeat thread, I didn't see anything exactly like it. The two more obvious traits are the magnetic...

    Need help. non-contact measuring device.

I like berkmans idea. I would pit a tapered grid on the latex before you roll into cone. The taper is so each of the resulting squares are the same size after forming the cone. Make the grid finer than the ball diameter so you can see the change easier. You can also just look at the cone...

Depends. Some of the older jets like the F-16 you can learn the specs, but it depends on the spec. Max range/speed, stealth, things like that are still classified. But you can, if you have a reason to know (like you are designing a widget to attach to the jet) be givin the specs.

    Aeronautical and astronautical Engineering

Do Aero, but you will get to take a lot of elective classes in different areas. I would pick something in aero you want to do, like satellites or aircraft, and take some electives that will help you get a job. A lot of schools don't offer minors in engineering, but if yours does, it's worth...

    Why is gravity always attractive?

he he he - that's funny. Would make a good sci-fi book I thinks.

    3D Thrust-Vectoring and Supercruise

Hundreds of thousands huh? F/A-22 is a better plane than every MiG flying right now. The Su-Flaker can probably outfly the F/A-22, but doesn't have it's speed or stealth advantage and would most likely lose the engagement. 1. OK, but believe it. Most military jet engines actually push gas...

    3D Thrust-Vectoring and Supercruise

F-16 are about $30M. And I love it when hippies talk of buying drugs (legal or not) and saving gorillas with the money. So what happens when we get our ass kicked in the next war? Think there will be any money left over for saving gorillas? Nope, it's called reparations. Go invent...

Wrong. Just because you are above the mach doesn't mean you have to afterburn fuel. One has nothing to do with the other. Better engines, lighter aircraft. Hell, missles fly mach 2-4 without any kind of AB (or breathing air for that matter).

Are there jobs in aerospace engineering?

CalPoly would be worth the move. Apply if you can scrape up the $50. For aero there isn't a better place, including MIT and the private U's. And no, I didn't go there (UofArizona MSE)

Which Materials Reflect Low-Frequency Sound in AC/Heating Systems?

I would google 'quiet steel' which is some Ford gimic. I think it is just a rubber coating with a speherical rubber filler which is pasted onto the firewall to absorbe engine noise. Wouldn'd be suprised if you couldn't tune it to your frequencies.

Programs Path to a PhD in Aerospace Engineering: Requirements and Timeline

Skip your MS and go straight to PhD, you won't need it. And plan on 6 years, 2 for classes and 4 for research.

    Aeronautical and astronautical Engineering

most of the aerospace people I work with are actually mechanical or chemical engineers. All the areo guys are good for is calcualting lift and air flow over a wing, fluid problems. If you go aerospace, you need to plan to stay for a MS or you will have a very hard time finding a job...
