High School What is x in this arithmetic problem?

I set N = 222,222,222,222,222,222 so that question becomes (n+222)^2 - (n+221)^2 after which solving for n is straightforward Not as nice as the first response, however

Can't this question be generalized as: what function defines the distance between two points on a plane and what simplified version of this function arises from minimising its value ?

Undergrad Kinetic energy - why no g divisor ?

yes you are right and I actually went through the exercise after I posted in the same manner you did. Also found some formula lists on the internet that acknowledge needing to divide by "g" (number, not units) when using Lb mass and force.

Undergrad Kinetic energy - why no g divisor ?

Unfortunately, it does have standing in engineering. Should I have posted this question in the engineering section ? I didn't realize this board was so segregated.

Undergrad Kinetic energy - why no g divisor ?

Ok that confirms for me that g does enter as the divisor in KE when using lb mass instead of slugs which I also confirmed when reviewing the derivation of KE and using lb mass as the unit. The whole point being when using lb interchangeably for mass and force, as in the English Engineering...

Undergrad Kinetic energy - why no g divisor ?

Pound force being equivalent to pound mass at Earth surface, we can safely safely say 4000 lbs raised 200 feet has 800,000 ft-lbs energy. Converting to kinetic energy after falling, however, we can't use 1/2 mv^2 without using g as a divisor. By this I mean if you measure the speed after...

Probability Teaser Puzzle - Challenge Your Mind

A & D are the same answer, so the chances of "25%" being the correct answer is 50%, which contradicts their stated probabilities, so neither can be right. That leaves B & C, and so since both are equally probable, means B is the only right answer

Undergrad Tennis ball speed after bounce

So as the angle of impact steepens horizontal component of velocity diminishes, meaning that the contribution of spin to horizontal speed after the bounce is proportionaly greater, right ? Hence just dropping a ball with zero horizontal speed but with spin, ball moves horizontally after bounce

Undergrad Tennis ball speed after bounce

Can a tennis ball move faster immediately after it strikes the court than immediately before is the question Thoughts ? If you throw the ball up in the air with no forward velocity but significant spin, it will move once it rebounds. Seems to me that that, added to whatever velocity the ball...
