Undergrad Creating an Exponential decay equation for given parameters
So, I am wanting to vary a parameter in an equation with respect to time. Vary mass flow [ m(t) ] for an exponential decay to half its original value in around 60 seconds. I know the regular decay equation where: m(t)=m0*exp(-At) but I want the value to approach a steady state at 60 seconds...- shakystew

Monte Carlo textbook suggestion?
I am looking for a good text for running monte carlo simulations. I have taken a monte carlo course for particle transport, but I need something more general. Any suggestions? (Using C++/C)- shakystew

How to Resolve MCNP Depletion Code Syntax Errors?
It ran without errors, but I would like to see the isotropic depletion within each region (especially the film, to verify it will last an entire fuel cycle). The 'print table 210' only shows the library burnup.- shakystew

How to Resolve MCNP Depletion Code Syntax Errors?
The burn time are in days and the power parameters represent the total recoverable fission system power (MW). (DEFAULT:POWER=1.0). I was forced to OMIT those isotopes in the respective material regions in order to not run into library issues.- shakystew

How to Resolve MCNP Depletion Code Syntax Errors?
Hello, I am a graduate student attempting to run evaluate the depletion of a ceramic film attached to the moderator-side of the fuel clad. I am having some issues with my MCNP syntax/code and I was wondering if one could assist. My input file is attached. I am not looking for someone to...- shakystew

Calculating Variance of Eq. with random variables
Creating a PDF for such variable Thank you jbunniii for the quick response! If I didn't know the value of h, how could I make a PDF for such variable? Wouldn't that require an equation of h to find such parameters? Or, if I do use those contraints from |2.7 , 3.3|, how would I go about...- shakystew

Calculating Variance of Eq. with random variables
Homework Statement I am attempting to calculate a heat transfer across a medium with known material properties. I have the equation and all but one variable I have an exact answer for. I require the variance of my answer. Homework Equations I know ALL variables (ie numerical value) except...- shakystew

How to model transient conditions?
I am now looking into codes that I can use for this analysis, and I have given my advisor some of the names of the codes listed above to see if he wants me to go that track. In the mean time, I am attempting to obtain a better representation of the heat transfer coefficient. My understanding...- shakystew

How to model transient conditions?
That is my thinking as well, and that is what I am finding, but I am still confused on how to begin to evaluate a pin during a transient. I will not have access to RELAP (Advisor does not want me to 'waste my time'), so I am lost.- shakystew

How to model transient conditions?
Hello, I am graduate student in NE within the US. I am working on a grant that examines a small (10-100 microns) ceramic film region on the outside of the cladding region. I have assessed the neutronic impact, as well as a thermal impact (heat transfer coefficients, etc.) of the additional...- shakystew

What materials make the best shields?
What shielding materials are best choices for reducing dose from: Neutrons: Gamma rays: Electrons: HCP: (heavy charged particles) I know, good neutron shields can be hydrogen (can be explosive though) or concrete, beta/electrons is a combo of low Z-material to block e- then high...- shakystew

How Do Survey Meters Differentiate Between Types of Radiation?
I am familiar with detectors and some lab equipment (Scintillation, geiger counters, ion chambers) I used during my undergrad labs, but how exactly do survey meters work? I have asked some rad workers and they just tell me "it's like a geiger counter, but more". So, how do they work /...- shakystew

Graduate Optimizing Activation Coil Selection for Maximum Gamma Flux
What is best way to figure out which of these activation coils would yield a higher gamma flux: 27Al, 58Ni, and 115In. I have a PuBe neutron source, which I am told to just use a 4.5MeV neutron-energy. I am running MCNP calculations to find flux at a point away from the foil. I knows the...- shakystew

Undergrad Basic Statistics: Reciprocal Variable Better Fit?
Hello, I have some data that I am looking into correlation factors (Pearson). Let's say I have two data sets: X and Y. I have Graph X vs. Y then graph 1/X vs. Y. The reciprocal (1/X) yields a more linear relationship. Why does this occur? Thanks in advance!- shakystew
