How did you decide on your career?
What are you in now and how did you end up there? I really want to do a post-grad in quantum mechanics, and got a letter from my Uni this morning asking if I am doing a single honours degree in astrophysics or a double honours degree in physics and maths-physics. Ideally I would do...- Smiles302

Should parents lose custody of super obese kids?
A food scientist's thoughts on the actual paper Link to full post: http://www.weightymatters.ca/2011/07/can-childhood-obesity-warrant-child.html" Nobody is arguing kids that are a bit pudgy be taken away, only severely obese children whose health is clearly at risk.- Smiles302

Should parents lose custody of super obese kids?
That Jamie Oliver TV show was frightening. We don't have school lunches here (Ireland). I could not imagine eating the weird packaged food he showed... I think a lot of it is the mentality. I can't imagine considering the junk that comes in "just-add-water" boxes to be food. I was horrified...- Smiles302

What exactly is an education degree ?
There's a couple of people in my lectures studying science education. They take majority of the same modules that I do except for two which are switched for education. They have a day a week (or it might be every two weeks, I've never made that much attention) where they help out in secondary...- Smiles302

High School Should you interchange ÷ with / in mathematical equations?
Would you interchange "÷" with "/" at will? I've just seen someone (with an engineering background) give out to a friend (with zero math background) for using / instead of ÷. Leading to very odd argument over what the answer to this is: 6÷2(1+2)=? Oddest thing to erupt over facebook...- Smiles302

Graduate Constant acceleration approach? =/
Link to guy's blog post: http://ftlfactor.com/2011/04/23/how-does-special-relativity-allow-effectively-faster-than-light-travel/#comment-117 He says he has a PhD in space physics. My understanding of special relativity was that the speed of light is always constant no matter what...- Smiles302

Confusion, matlab, ode45 variables.
Homework Statement I am very confused over how MATLAB knows which variables are changeable variables in ode45. Homework Equations // The Attempt at a Solution My input is p Earlier have defined; a = 1; k = 1; w = 1/3; Then I want to figure out adot and adoubledot from...- Smiles302

Non-Stick Pots & Pans: Pros & Cons
Non-stick pans work well if you take care of them. Never use any metal spoons or forks to stir the food in them. You scrap the non-stick off them. You should also leave a coating of oil on them when you put them in the press. I don't personally have the patience... But my parents do that and...- Smiles302

Comp Sci Why Is My C++ Loop Not Calculating Standard Deviation Correctly?
Oh no haha! from this void standiv (double xArray[], double& num, double& sum, double& std, double& mean) to void standiv (double xArray[], double& num, double& sum, double& ans, double& mean) and in a couple more places in the main. I'll get a hand of this coding lack eventually haha- Smiles302
