High School Can We Store Lightning Energy?
Here are my 2 cents... Cent 1: May be its a good idea to tap the energy in an indirect way. That is do not store it in a capacitor - because the capcitor's die-electric would break down. The air actually broke down to make way for the lightning so... Maybe we can send the discharge thru a... -

Undergrad Finding Temperature with Speed?
On a very high level you would need a few things. But as others said - there is no "easy" equaton. And I doubt you will get a good answer because the velocity might require an extremely powerful kick that may deform the fotball for good. However academically thinking I would approach the...- snbose

Undergrad Directly measure frequency of light source
I am not sure what you meant by "DIRECTLY" measure the frequency. One way would be to use a diffraction grating and using a collimated beam of the light. In fact you can use other interferometers for this purpose too. Thanks -SNB -

Undergrad What Do You See When Replacing a Screen with Your Eyes for a Real Image?
This is a good experiment. 1. Parallax would perfectly hold true with the floating-real image. You can actually hold a pencil where the image originally appeared (before you removed the screen) and move your head sideways and the pencil's position to detect the exact location of the image... -

me in the solution of this problem
Solution: At z=0 (sea level); g=a Say at height x the accelarion due to gravity is 99% i.e 0.99a. This is the height where the weight will be 99% too (F=mg). So 0.99a=a - bx. x = 0.01a/b.- snbose

Graduate Calculating Total Energy of a Planet Orbiting a Star: A Simple Guide
I don't think so. The explanation you are suggesting is new to me. It is true that in our case while you are not equating "separate" forces but you are still equating two "same" force. There is no restriction in using the word "equation" whether the type of entities are "separate" or "same"...- snbose

Undergrad Inverse square law and Kepler's third law
Coulomb's law is based on experiment. It was not deduced. Just like Newton's force law, P=mf. It is true that Johannes Keplar and Tycho Brahe's research preeceded Newton's discovery of the inverse sqare law,but Newton 'historically' arrived at the inverse square law independently. It was...- snbose

High School Uniform Circular Motion: Understanding Forces in Space | Basic Physics Question
Vinter, It does not matter if the stars are fixed. All matters is they are far far away and therefore APPEAR stationery. Other than that, as you said the only force on the stone was the string-tension, which is right..makes me wonder what ambiguity you expected in the first place when you... -

Undergrad Explaining Acceleration of Electron in Bohr Model
Theories or postulates , can turn out to be incorrect. Thats not the point. We are trying to state what exactly is a postlulate and what are the thoughts behind formulating one. Whether it turns out to be a correct one or not is a different story. Perhaps I was oversimplifying the idea of a...- snbose

Undergrad Explaining Acceleration of Electron in Bohr Model
Bohr formulated these in postulates, which means they were assumptions. These postulates clearly states that the chosen orbits are exceptions to classical electromagnetic theory. This is not new in physics. You are allowed to make assumptions and then lead to a theory. If your theory stands the...- snbose

High School Testing Battery Energy: Questions and Answers
The testing procedure will be a cumbersome one. You will need to measure the Voltage across the load and Current at regular intervals, take their products and plot it against time. Then measure the area under the curve. You may use a Wattmeter so you don't have to measure V and i and multiply...- snbose

Is my inductance measurement accurate for a pulsed plasma thruster?
[FONT=Verdana]I am not familier with the exact details of this experiment. But its a good idea to calibrate your setup. The problem as it seems from the description is some component in the circuit is tending to reduce inductance. What can reduce inductance? Parasite Capacitance. To determine...- snbose

High School Understanding Snell's Law and Maxwell's Equations with EM Waves
Righto! Maxwell's equations on EM Waves will provide the most elegent proof of Snells Law, Laws of Reflection and all the rest. You can read it from David Griffits "Intro ...to Electrodynamics".
