I The Nuances of Truth in Axioms and Premises
Hey everyone, I’m taking my first discrete math course this term and am kind of struggling with determining the difference between different terminology. As the title says, it’s specifically with premises and axioms. My professor’s notes begin with an introduction to premises as one of the two...- starstruck_

Determine the singularity type of the given function (Theo. Phys)
NOTE: Was not sure where to post this as it is a math question, but a part of my "Theoretical Physics" course. I have no idea where to start this and am probably doing this mathematically incorrect. given the function f(z) = cos(z+1/z) there should exist a singular point at z=0 as at z = 0...- starstruck_

Python What downloads are required to work with Python?
Hey everyone! This might be a bit of a dumb question, but I'm not familiar with much in the programming world. I know a few languages that I've learned on my own (online) or through a course in school (MATLAB). When it comes down to coding outside of MATLAB or a website, I'm not sure where to...- starstruck_

B Understanding Special Relativity: 2nd Year SR Course Explained
Ahhhhh okay, I know how to do the lorentz transformations. I can understand it with the transformations but not conceptually for some reason. Like instead of doing the transformations, if I had to reason it out, I wouldn’t be able to. About the RoS, I brought that up as my initial way of...- starstruck_

B Understanding Special Relativity: 2nd Year SR Course Explained
Hey everyone! So, I just finished my 2nd year intro to SR course, we spent most of the term on Taylor expansions for relativistic corrections vs concepts. I’ve watched a crash course video and a documentary on SR and I do somewhat understand the thought experiment involved with respect to...- starstruck_

I NGC7741 Imaging: Should I Stack Images Through IRAF?
The images I saved and worked with were black for some reason so I did stretch them, after stretching them, they looked like what I saw on the computer while using the CCD(my galaxy wasn’t there when I was taking images with the CCD - but my prof had said that we shouldn’t expect them to show...- starstruck_

I NGC7741 Imaging: Should I Stack Images Through IRAF?
Ah darn, looks like I’m retaking my images then ;-; (or not, my prof knows what happened and he said he’ll let me use my partner’s images for the reduction instead) Do want my own set of images though, the galaxy is gorgeousEDIT: We did move the field of view as far away from the light leak as...- starstruck_

Other The science in my email to a prof
Hey! I’m writing an email to a professor for research and I am mentioning some things I’ve found interesting and trying to connect them to his research but I’m not exactly sure if I’ve gotten the gist of these topics right ; like for example if dark matter and stuff effects the structure or...- starstruck_

I NGC7741 Imaging: Should I Stack Images Through IRAF?
But this should show up after I do my reduction right? I’m hoping the light leak would somewhat be subtracted but idk. I’m worried now, definitely don’t want to have to go back and take images again.- starstruck_

I NGC7741 Imaging: Should I Stack Images Through IRAF?
This was helpful! Tried stacking, didn’t see the galaxy :(( there was a light leak when we were take photos of my galaxy(+11.25 mag) guess I’m using my friend’s images for data reduction, he didn’t have light leaks when he took the images of the galaxy later in the night:(( Although two...- starstruck_

Testing Overcoming Struggles and Achieving Grad School Goals
I do have anxiety issues so you might actually be right on point (had a massive anxiety attack recently) I’ll take a look at the link and the advice on reading a book on logic- anything to help me reduce my stupid mistakes. The assignments are no different from our tests but some reason I screw...- starstruck_

Testing Overcoming Struggles and Achieving Grad School Goals
Heyyy! I know I’ve asked for advice before and trust me I’ve followed it as much as possible but all of the work I’m putting in isn’t paying off. I do and then redo assignments until I can’t find mistakes anymore and if I don’t understand something on a problem set or assignment, I ask for help...- starstruck_

I NGC7741 Imaging: Should I Stack Images Through IRAF?
There’s software that uses fewer stars? Do you happen to know any? we do our data reduction stuff through Xming/PuTty and it involves doing stuff in an IRAF and a Linux terminal. I don’t really know how to explain it :// I’m in second year so don’t have extensive experience with data reduction- starstruck_
