Drafting question - weld symbol question
ahmedi811, Yes, as I showed, the variable changes depending on where the section cut is. The same unit, viewed from a different angle, will have a different angle between the two parts. The reason it matters is because the weld geometry is based on the angle between the two, and the angle...- Sultan of Hel

Drafting question - weld symbol question
Looks like the sum of angles phi and omega. I may be completely wrong, but the way I see it is this: You have an axis (call it "A") that is along the length of the chord member. Define a ray (call it "B") along the length of the brace member, starting at the intersection with Axis A...- Sultan of Hel

Drafting question: Views with different scales
That's the thing. The detail view is scaled differently from the sheet. So under "Detail A," I put the overall scale of the detail drawing, not in relation to the sheet. 4X relative to the drawing, drawing is 0.5X, so "Detail A | Scale 2:1". Thanks!- Sultan of Hel

Drafting question: Views with different scales
If I have a drawing (in this case, of a machined part) that's 1:2 scale, and I have a detail view that, in relation to the rest of the drawing, is 4:1, what do I put as the scale for the detail view? 4:1 (relative to the rest of the drawing), or 2:1 (relative to the real piece)?- Sultan of Hel

Drafting question - weld symbol question
Hey all, Not sure if things like this are dealt with here, but I'll give it a shot: I have a pipe with an outer "diameter A" (small) and a flange with an inner "diameter B" (large). Between them is a conical transition piece with the following characteristics: The OD of the cone at the small...- Sultan of Hel

Graduate Cooling air by running it through underground pipes
An environmentalist friend of mine wants to cool a building on his property (something like a shed or workshop) not with AC, but by blowing air from outside into a pipe underground, running it underground for a distance, and then blowing that air straight up into the building. I need to find...- Sultan of Hel

When is it necessary to incorporate a tapped hole versus a drilled hole?
If parts are cheap and labor is expensive (as is usually the case), or if the force which the fasteners are withstanding is fairly high, I would suggest a bolt/washer/lockwasher/nut assembly. The washer distributes the force over a wider area on the surface (sparing the part) and the lockwasher...- Sultan of Hel

Shock load due to high pressure gas flowing into container
Hello, I am new here so I apologize in advance if my question is not formatted as it should. I have an application where a large pressurized vessel is releasing part of its contents (gaseous) into an "empty" container (air), much smaller, that is at atmospheric pressure. I need to know if the...- Sultan of Hel
